Magdalena Dudkowska, Agnieszka Sobierajska-Rek, Zofia Barcikowska – Possibilities of using physiotherapy after surgical treatment of endometriosis. Case study. Fizjoterapia Polska 2022; 22(1); 108-120

Abstract
Objective of the study. The aim of the study was to present the role of physiotherapy in women with endometriosis after surgical treatment.
Material and methods. A 35 year old women with endometriosis diagnosed by histopathological examination participated in the study. The study program included a examination and therapy. The examination included an interview and filled a questionnairy: „Endometriosis impact questionnaire (EIQ)”. The physical examination included functional tests and palpation the structure. The therapy included work with scar, diaphragm, abdominal muscle, iliopsoas muscle and sacroiliac joint.
Results. Physiotherapy management is an important part of the comprehensive treatment of patients after surgical intervention for endometriosis. It contributes to the reduction of tension and to the alleviation of pain.
Conclusions. Physiotherapy may plays an important role in the complex treatment of women with Endometriosis.

Karol de Tillier, Jakub Bracha, Agnieszka Sobierajska-Rek, Łukasz Mański – Application of virtual reality and video games in pediatric physiotherapy. Systematic review. Fizjoterapia Polska 2021; 21(3); 28-43

Abstract
In recent years, intensive research has been carried out on virtual reality (VR) and its application in the treatment of pediatric patients. The basic objective of this review is to present the advantages, effectiveness and role of VR physical therapy in selected disease entities by comparing the results of VR research from the last 5 years. 17 articles were obtained from online databases: Pubmed, Researchgate, NCBI, Sage Journals, Oxford Academic. The analyzed studies concerned the use of VR in the treatment of pediatric patients with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, developmental dyspraxia, risk of developmental dyspraxia, patients with burn injuries, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and ADHD. This review contains research on VR selected on the basis of their reliability, number and age of participants, and the year of publication. We excluded review articles in the selection of studies. The analysis of selected original research papers showed that VR physical therapy offers a number of advantages not found in standard physiotherapy and achieves comparable effects.

A. Sobierajska-Rek – Hemiplegic shoulder pain – clinical factors and pain pressure sensitivity. FP 2017; 17(4); 24-32

Abstract

Shoulder pain is a typical symptom accompanying upper extremity paresis or plegia after stroke.
Aim of the study. The aim of this study was to determine relationship among clinical factors, such as subluxation or impingement syndrome, spasticity, pain pressure sensitivity and incidence of shoulder pain in stroke patients.
Material and methods. Stroke survivors with hemiplegic shoulder pain (n = 26), and the controls without shoulder pain (n = 11) underwent pain pressure threshold measure at biceps and supraspinatus, soft tissues in shoulder region, motor function of upper limb in Brunnstrom scale and spasticity were assessed.
Results. There was no difference in sensitivity in supraspinatus, but the correlation at the level of statistical tendency is present in biceps. Spasticity was more severe in the shoulder pain group, and intensity of pain was correlated with an increase in muscle tonus.
Conclusion. There is correlation between the pain in hemiplegic shoulder and symptoms of impingement syndrome and subluxation in shoulder joint. The tendency to increased pain pressure sensitivity was observed in biceps in the group with shoulder pain.

Physiotherapy of scar in the light of the current reports about fascia

A. Sobierajska-Rek – Physiotherapy of scar in the light of the current reports about fascia. FP 2017; 17(1); 64-71

Abstract

In view of the serious complications of healing process within certain parts of the body (visceral adhesions, adhesions within the chest disrupting respiratory patterns, entrapment of nerves in scar tissue) it seems necessary to introduce prevention and treatment of adhesions after any surgical procedures.

The aim of this study is to present the mechanisms, which accompany the formation of scar, on the basis of the current reports on fascia, and to show the possibility of therapeutic treatment of linear scars, on the basis of our own clinical experience.

When examining dysfunctions accompanying the healing process of soft tissues, three basic disorders may be defined: keloid scar, hypertrophic scar and tissue adhesion.

It has been established, that using the manual mobilization techniques on a scar, tissue mobility may be improved, pain sensation decreased and better functioning of internal organs achieved. In order to obtain optimal therapeutic results, it is essential to introduce a comprehensive scar treatment. The manual mobilization leads to certain reactions of tissue at the level of hyaluronic acid restructuring, breaking the adhesion or preventing its creation and relaxation caused by stress.
