Mirosław Janiszewski, Anna Błaszczyk – An evaluation of the effectiveness of magnetotherapy as a factor supporting rehabilitation on the basis of selected biomechanic and psychotechnical indices. Fizjoterapia Polska 2001; 1(1); 39-42

Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the impact of longterm magnetic field stimulation on the rehabilitation of post-stroke patients and to determine how quickly these patients gain locomotor efficiency. A group of 180 patients 50-70 years old after stroke received rehabilitation and low frequency magnetic field stimulation. As a criterion for evaluation purposes the authors used selected biomechanical and psychotechnical indices. The study shows that magnetotherapy in post-stroke patients undergoing rehabilitation has a positive effect in the improvement of muscle function, motor coordination indices, and some biomechanical parameters (strength under dynamic and static circumstances).

Abstract
Background. This article evaluates the rehabilitation of geriatric patients using a program of kinesitherapy in conjunction with the application of high-tone wave therapy according to the WaDiT system, using exclusively variable electromagnetic fields (medium frequency current in the tone range from ca. 4,000 Hz to ca. 12,000 Hz). Material and methods. The study involved 62 patients, aged 60-85, in the second and third degree of disability on the geriatric scale according to the WHO definition. All patients had a 16-week program of kinesitherapy. 31 patients also received WaDiT therapy for a 10-week period. Results. The study confirmed improvements in physical fitness, coordination of movement and balance, and subjective health status among the patients in both groups. The patients in the group to whom WaDiT therapy was achieved significantly better results. Conclusion. The rehabilitation program here described can help in delaying the onset of involutionary processes, allowing the patient to preserve functional independence, cognitive functions, and social activity on an optimal, individual level.

Jolanta Kujawa, Iwona Pyszczek, Jan Talar, Mirosław Janiszewski – Comparative evaluation of the analgesic effectiveness of selected physiotherapeutic methods in the treatment of low back pain syndrome. Fizjoterapia Polska 2001; 1(3); 271-279

Abstract

Background. Low back pain, especially lumbosacral syndrome, is the most frequently encountered pain syndrome in musculoskeletal diseases. In many countries the question of low back pain has become a social problem. The basic task of rehabilitation teams is to make the proper choice of effective physiotherapeutic method. The goal of this study was to evaluate the analgesic effectiveness of selected combined physiotherapeutic methods in patients with low back pain. The results were analyzed for statistically significant differences correlating with the application of particular physical methods.Material and methods. 450 randomly selected patients (319 females, 131 males), age 21-79 (average age 56,53 years +/- 15,34) treated for low back pain syndrome in the Department of Medical Rehabilitation at the Łódź-Śródmieście Municipal Clinic were surveyed. Patients were divided into two groups: Group A received laser biostimulation, while Group B received interferential current instead of laser therapy. All patients studied went through a uniform, typical program of therapeutic exercises. The effectiveness of this combined therapy was evaluated on the basis of subjective pain reported on the modified Laitinen pain questionnaire, taking into account intensity, frequency, use of analgesics and motor activity. A clinical examination was also performed. Results. The investigation indicated that both selected combined physiothearapeutic methods have a measurable analgesic effect in the treatment in low back pain. However, laser therapy applied in combination with therapeutic exercises proved to have greater therapeutic efficiency for such patients compared to interferential current with therapeutic exercises, and this difference was statistically significant.

Abstract
Background. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of long-term musical training on the genesis of defective posture. Material and methods. The study involved a group of 92 children who were tested twice, once in 1992 again in 1998, used a specially developed screening test. Results. A greater rate of occurrence of posture defects, including especially scoliosis, was found in children who were heavily involved in playing musical instruments. This type played was found to correlate with type and frequency of particular posture defects. Conclusion. Systematic long term of musical instruments may cause more frequent in posturogenesis and a higher rate of scoliosis.

Mirosław Janiszewski, Andrzej Polak – Estimation of effectiveness high-tone therapy as adjunctive factor of rehabilitation among the patients with dysfunction of movement organ. Fizjoterapia Polska 2003; 3(1); 66-70

Abstract
Background. The present study is an evaluation of the value of WaDiT in the rehabilitation of patients with dysfunctions of the motor apparatus. Material and methods. We examined 100 female patients aged 40-60 diagnosed with osteoarthritic lesions in the lumbar spine. All these women underwent a 3-month course of kinesitherapy; 60 of them also received WaDiT procedures prior to each kinesitherapy application. Results. The findings in the WaDiT group indicate increased mobility of the spine and improvements in the dynamic and static parameters of the posture stabilizer muscles. Such results were not found in the group of patients who received kinesitherapy alone. Conclusuons. WaDiT can be a valuable supplement to kinesitherapy.

Abstract

Background. This article presents a technique for analyzing thermovision images by calculating the knee-limb temperature index (KLTI). The usefulness of this technique for diagnosis and outcome evaluation is assessed. Material and methods. 41 patients with knee pain syndrome in 67 joints were examined, along with 30 healthy controls. The intensity of knee joint dysfunction was evaluated on a 0-30 point scale according to a specially developed test the sheet. Results. In the control group, the KLTI was in the range from -1.4°C to -0.2°C; the range from -1.31°C to -0.5°C was the norm for 90% of the population. In the experimental group, the KLTC place from -0.5°C to +1.8°C. The differences between the KLTI values in the two groups was statistically significant. There was also correlation between the intensity of dysfunction and the KLTI. In the experimental group the values were lower after treatment. Conclusions. The KLTI is a highly specific and sensitive instrument for evaluating knee pain syndrome. The technique described here is a valuable diagnostic supplement, objectivizing outcome evaluation in these patients.

Abstract

Shoulder arthroplasty is a surgical method of treating joint dysfunction, which is an exchange of destroyed joint surfaces by endoprothesis. Appropriate rehabilitation after shoulder arthroplasty gives patient a chance for regaining complete joint function. However, it is important to perform appropriate patient’s qualification and preparation to the operation. In many scientists’ opinion the shoulder arthroplasty gives better joint function in comparison to use of alternative procedures.

Jolanta Kujawa, Jarosław Oborzyński, Mirosław Janiszewski – How to guarantee the patient’s success after shoulder arthroplasty part II: post-surgery rehabilitation. Fizjoterapia Polska 2004; 4(2); 176-182

Abstract

In the opinion of many authors, surgical reconstruction of the shoulder enables optimal recovery of functionality. The problem of post-surgical rehabilitation remains a point of however, due to differences of opinion regarding the optimal time to commerce rehabilitation, the order which exercises are introduced, and the need to modify physiotherapeutic procedures. Long-term cooperation within the treatment team and good cooperation with the patient can guarantee a positive rehabilitation outcome. The rehabilitation program should be individually tailored and modified at each stage of treatment. On the basis of a review of the literature and their own experience, the authors have developed a basic post-surgical rehabilitation program, which enables the recovery of optimal joint function. The article is illustrated by photographs showing the proposed exercises.
