Abstract
Colles’ fracture is one of the most common types of forearm fractures, affecting mainty women around the age of 60, most often those suffering from osteoporosis. On the basis of literature data and the authors’ own experiences, the article presents protocols of physiotherapeutic management ofpatients with fractures ofthe distal epiphysis ofthe radius and management of complications associated with these fractures. The therapeutic procedure consists of three basie stages. The first two are the repositioning and immobilization of the fracture, sometimes preceded by surgical intervention. The third stage consists in intensive physiotherapy aiming to speed up the bone healing process, restore as much wrist mobility as possible, restore limb strength and function, and prevent or cope with possible complications. Physiotherapists dealing with a Colles fracture employ a yariety of exercises using specialist equipment and modern manual therapy techniques, such as the „hold-relax techniques, Brian Mulligan’s MWM, and, in later stages, active exercises aga-inst resistance. The goal of the therapy is to achieve fuli range of motion in the joint, inerease muscle strength and improve pro-prioception. Working with the patient, the therapist can utilize appropriate equipment, functional exercises related to actMties ofda-ily living, and physical agents. As with any musculoskeletal injury, fractures of the distal epiphysis of the radius may be accompa-nied by various complications. These can be divided into early (loss of reposition, median nerve neuropathy etc.) and late complications. The latter group includes incorrect union of fractured bone, carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist instability etc. Early and appropriate physiotherapy may prevent many secondary complications and speed up fuli functional recovery of the patient.

Aneta Bac, Łukasz Stagraczyński, Elżbieta Ciszek, Maciej Górkiewicz, Andrzej Szczygieł – Efficacy of Kinesiology Taping in the rehabilitation of children with low–angle scoliosis. Fizjoterapia Polska 2009; 9(3); 202-210

Abstract
Background. There are a number of methods of conservative management of idiopathic scoliosis, including Kinesiology Taping, which utilises elastic tapes to reduce pain or correct joint alignment. The goal of this study was to determine the effect of Kinesio Taping on selected parameters in children with low-angle scoliosis. Material and methods. The subjects were two groups of 22 children each, all diagnosed with low angle scoliosis on the basis of a physical examination and radiographic evidence. The patients from the control group were subjected to a special therapeutic programme. Sessions were held three times a week for 45 minutes for a total of three weeks. During the other 2 days the children exercised at home twice a day. In the experimental group Kinesiology Taping was additionally applied. Spinal mobility, the rounding of the back, the intensity of pain, the degree of muscular tension and the level of activity and regularity of doing the exercises were evaluated in both groups. Results. In the experimental group, Kinesiology Taping had the most marked effect on back rounding, muscular tension and increasing the children’s average level of activity. Pain intensity was reduced initially but later returned to baseline levels (short-lasting effect). According to the parents and the therapist, the children fitted with Kinesio-Tex tapes (experimental group) were better motivated to do the exercises regularly. Conclusions. The results of this preliminary study seem to support the hypothesis that Kinesiology Taping can be a good adjunct to traditional therapy in children with low-angle scoliosis.

Aneta Bac, Urszula Niemiec, Edward Golec – Long-term evaluation of treatment of traumatic injuries and motor organ overuse syndromes in archers. Fizjoterapia Polska 2011; 11(2); 155-168

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to characterize most common injuries and overuse syndromes observed in archery, to evaluate their influence on further sports careers and to determine what treatment methods are most commonly applied in these conditions. The sample comprised 48 top Polish archers, representing the champion class and the international champion class. Selection of the subjects was based on the survey carried out during the Polish Senior Championship held in August 2009 in Krakow. The survey was performed using the tailored questionnaire comprising 31 closed questions, divided into two parts. The first part of the questionnaire included the questions concerning the frequency and volume of training sessions, time devoted to warm up exercises, etc. while the second part pertained to fatigue and its causes as well as to injuries and their treatment.Pain and fatigue symptoms were most frequently noted in the shoulder area (38 subjects = 79.1%). The body areas where pain was least frequently observed included the elbow (4 subjects = 8.3%) and forearm (3 subjects = 6.2%). The prevailing part of injuries (26 cases = 60.5%) involved muscles and ligaments. In 16 archers (37.2%) such injuries were noted in joints and periarticular tissues and in only in 1 subject (2.3%) the nerves were involved. The most frequent method of treatment was rehabilitation (30%) and the rarest procedure was application of steroid drugs (5%). The most frequent method of rehabilitation applied in the research group was magnetotherapy (44% of the research group) while acupuncture was the rarest approach applied in this study (1%). In 6 archers (18.7%) the injuy did not have any significant effect on their sport performance. Deterioration in athletic performance was initially observed in 20 archers (62.6%), but after some time their performance reached normal levels. However, 6 archers (18.7%) failed to regain their baseline performance levels. The study subjects most frequently sustained soft tissue injuries in the area of shoulder joint. Physiotherapy was the most frequently applied approach in this study. The more frequently the examined subjects experienced injury consequences, the more commonly surgical treatment was applied. In the studied sample the women trained less frequently than the men.

Abstract
The purpose of the above study was to evaluate the quality of life and the type of late postoperative complications in women after breast cancer surgery. The research group consisted of 30 women who underwent treatment for breast cancer. The women were members of the “Amazons” Post-Mastectomy Women’s Club in Tarnów (50%) and in Kraków (50%). The questionnaire dealt with the quality of life and health and was based on the EORTC QLQ-30 questionnaire. The examination chart determined the range of active movement in the joints of the shoulder girdle, limb circumference, potential contracture of the pectoral muscles, measurement of muscle strength and hand strength. The quality of life in the examined women who underwent mastectomy did not change dramatically. In the research group, the range of movement in the shoulder joint on the side of the operated breast became limited in all directions and similarly, the strength of the analyzed muscles decreased. The upper limb lymphoedema was registered in half of the examined women. Pain and sleep disorders were the two postoperative complications that most strongly affected the quality of life in post-mastectomy women.

Fizjoterapia Polska 2021; 21(1); 54-61

Abstract
Introduction. Contemporary sports physiotherapy has various methods of treating patients. Currently, Kinesiology Taping has become one of the most popular and inherent prophylactic methods supporting treatment after injuries within the musculoskeletal system. This technique allows the space between the skin and the fascia to be opened, which allows for better microcirculation and thus faster regeneration processes.
Objective. The objective of the study was to assess the pain and the results of Kinesiology Taping in the studied volleyball players after injuries of various parts of the body.
Materials and method. The study assessed the effect of Kinesiology Taping as a physiotherapeutic method that is commonly used after injuries in professional volleyball players. The study covered 72 players diagnosed with a motor organ dysfunction that occurred during physical activity related to practicing a given discipline.
Results. The study showed the relationship between the change in pain intensity assessed using the VAS scale and the application of Kinesiology Taping (Student’s t-test). The test showed a relationship between the use of taping and the reduction of pain, which was statistically significant for all injured parts of the body (p < 0.05).
Conclusions. In the assessment of the studied volleyball players, Kinesiology Taping of the areas of the body presented in the study was effective. There was a decrease in the value of pain assessed according to the scale.
