DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG07B1B5

Streszczenie

Background. Rectus diastasis is a common problem affecting postpartum mothers. It decreases the integrity as well as functional strength of the abdominal wall, and causes low back pain and pelvic instability
Objective. To examine how TECAR therapy (monopolar capacitive resistance radiofrequency of 448 KHz) affects rectus diastasis in postpartum women.
Design. A prospective randomized controlled trial.
Setting. Outpatient physical therapy clinic, Kafr El Sheikh University.
Methods. Forty postnatal women having diastasis recti abdominis (DRA) > 2.5 cm were recruited and randomized into two equal groups; the control group received a program of selected abdominal exercises and low caloric diet of 1200 kcal/ day for 4 weeks, and the study group received the same control group interventions in addition to TECAR application. DRA degree was the primary outcome, while weight and body mass index measures were the secondary outcomes. All variables were measured at the baseline and after 4 weeks of the intervention by rectus diastasis test, abdominal ultrasonography, and calibrated weight scale.
Results. Analysis showed a significant reduction (P < .05) in weight, body mass index, rectus diastasis test, and ultrasound measures in both groups in favor of the study group
Conclusion. Using TECAR with a standard program of abdominal exercises and low caloric diet has more beneficial effects on postnatal DRA than practicing the exercise program alone with the low-calorie diet.

Streszczenie

Although it enables a quick evaluation, medical diagnostics of the human myofascial-skeletal system is not always used to its full capabilities. This often hampers the objective assessment of a dysfunction and limits treatment options. Dysfunctions of the stomatognathic system, of different aetiology, are becoming more prevalent. Many scientific studies are in to relationships between organs and systems of the human body that can cause dysfunctions of the temporomandibular disorders. Studies investigating correlations between a myofascial-skeletal disorder and temporomandibular disorders are to be found in the literature. To achieve a good understanding of aetiology of these dysfunctions, a holistic view of a patient is advisable, which takes into consideration the fact that the temporomandibular joint is an integral part of the whole body. This study is a review of the literature, supported by own examples on investigating the relationship between myofascial-skeletal disorders and a temporomandibular disorder, which, in the light of current medical knowledge, is attributed to the phenomenon of biotensegrity. A conclusion has been put forward on the basis of 136 scientific reports that a dependency exists between the said dysfunctions.

Mirosław Mrozkowiak – Restitution of the size of postural features in the frontal plane after loading with the weight of school items carried with the right and left hand in 7-year-old pupils of both sexes. Fizjoterapia Polska 2023; 23(1); 6-21

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG07BFF3

Abstract

Introduction. The analysis of the pupil’s environment is a set of stressors in the field of human ecology consisting not only of the genetic factor but also of the epigenetic one. Material and methods. The study of body posture was carried out in a group of 65 pupils at the age of 7, using the mora projection method in the following eight positions: (four positions for the right-hand thrust and four for the left-hand thrust): 1- habitual posture, 2 – posture after pulling a container with school supplies with one hand for 10 minutes, 3 – one minute after removing the load, 4 – two minutes after removing the load. The measurement of physical fitness was performed using the Sekita test. Results. The significance of differences between measurement 1, 2, 3, and 4 was analysed to determine the restitution of the size of traits after loading and their correlation with physical fitness to examine the relationship with the studied differences. Conclusions. (1) After removing the load, statistically significant restitution occurred after the first and second minute. Restitution was incomplete. (2) In right-hand carriage by boys, endurance significantly correlated with restitution, and among girls it was additionally speed and agility. As regards girls, physical fitness revealed more frequent relationships with restitution. (3) In left-hand carriage by boys, after the first minute, restitution correlated with endurance, power, agility and overall physical fitness, and after two minutes, additionally with strength, while among girls with strength, power, and endurance. After two minutes, restitution correlated with speed and agility in addition to the abovementioned postural features. As far as girls are concerned, physical fitness more often correlated with restitution. (4) Due to incomplete restitution after one and two minutes, asymmetrical carriage is not recommended to children aged 7 years. Physical fitness demonstrated by children does not lead to full restitution of the examined postural features, which suggests its low level and immature correctional and compensational processes.

Fizjoterapia Polska 2022; 22(5); 130-138

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG20At5I

Abstract:

Aim. to assess the impact of a 6-weeks high-intensity interval exercise (HIIE) regimen on pain, disability, as well as autonomic balance in women with nonspecific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). Materials and methods. Eighty females with mild to moderate NSCLBP, with ages of 18-65 years, were recruited from the physiotherapy department at King Fahd University Hospital, AlKhobar. They were assigned randomly into the control group (n = 40), which received standard regular physiotherapy, or the experimental group (n = 40), which received HIIE as well as conventional regular physiotherapy. Pre- and post-intervention (after 6 weeks) assessments included pain intensity via Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), disability via Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), as well as autonomic balance via heart rate variability (HRV) parameters & baroreceptor sensitivity (BRS) Both at rest and in reaction to an orthostatic challenge. Results. Both groups experienced significant improvements in pain and disability, with the HIIE group experiencing a higher improvement in both variables. For the HRV parameters after 6 weeks of intervention, the control group had a statistically significant reduction in high frequency (HF), and in response to the orthostatic challenge, a significantly higher rise in the normalized low frequency (LFnu) compared to the baseline. BRS showed a significant reduction and heart rate recovery was significantly faster post-intervention in the HIIE group in the 2nd and 3rd minutes, compared to the baseline values. Conclusions. HIIE can be a valuable addition to NSCLBP patients’ exercise routines in practice, since adding HIIE to standard physiotherapy resulted in more reduction in pain, disability compared to conventional physiotherapy alone, with enhanced autonomic regulation after six weeks of treatment.
