Streszczenie

The aim of this article is to present the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the psychophysical state of a child. The diagnostic survey method and questionnaire technique were used for the study. The survey was conducted online among elementary school students. The empirical material collected shows the evaluation of remote education and its impact on the changes that occurred in children during the pandemic. The changes that occurred during remote learning include increased stress, isolation, lack of contacts with peers, exhaustion, long hours of work in front of a screen and decreased physical activity.

Abstract
Objective. The objective of the study was to analyse pain and quality of life in women after radical and sparing mastectomy. The quality of life after radical mastectomy compared to sparing mastectomy was characterized, assessing difficulties in everyday life and work, as well as limitations in undertaking various activities caused by pain after the procedure. The study verified whether the type of mastectomy significantly impacted selected aspects of life.
Material and method. The questionnaire-based study was carried out among 100 patients of Holy Cross Cancer Centre, aged 29 to 88 years, after radical and sparing breast cancer treatment. In order to compare the values of quantitative and qualitative variables between the groups, Student’s t-test, chi-square test, Mann-Whitney test and Shapiro-Wilk test were used. A significance level of p <0.05 was adopted in the course of the analysis. Statistical analysis was performed using Statistica 13.1 by StatSoft; the data was collected in Excel 2016.
Results. The analysis showed no statistically significant differences in the level of pain intensity in each analysed area between the groups of women, however, it confirmed a statistically significant correlation between the type of surgery performed and the onset of pain as well as limitations in everyday functioning. The analysis showed no statistically significant differences in pain intensity depending on the treatment period.
Conclusions. The level of pain after radical and sparing mastectomy was similar. After radical mastectomy, the patients’ quality of life was lower than after sparing mastectomy. Rehabilitation reduced pain intensity and improved the patients’ quality of life.

M. Szczepaniuk, Z. Śliwiński, K. Markowski, G. Śliwiński – Effectiveness of manual therapy in pain syndromes originating from the cervical spine. Fizjoterapia Polska 2020; 20(1); 170-179

Abstract
Introduction. Cervical pain is a common problem worldwide and is increasingly prevalent. The structure of the cervical segment, as well as its biomechanics, contributes to this. The highest number of cases has been observed among professionally active people, however, the most vulnerable are people practicing a profession involving long-term sitting in one position for several hours. The spine is often overloaded due to long periods of remaining in unnatural and uncomfortable static positions. Pain is most often the result of changes in the paravertebral tissues occurring on a structural background. This problem affects 60–90% of the population and occurs in people aged 25–65. The main methods of treating pain syndromes include: kinesitherapy, i.e. movement therapy, physical procedures and various special methods, including the McKenzie method, PNF or manual therapy.
Objective The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of treating people with pain syndromes originating from the cervical spine with various physiotherapy methods.
Material and methods. The PubMed database was searched electronically using keywords such as ‘manual therapy’, ‘PNF’, ‘McKenzie method’, ‘pain syndromes’, ‘cervical spine pain syndrome’, ‘cervical spine’, ‘neck pain’, ‘neck pain therapy’ and the relevant studies were examined. Twenty-two publications were found, containing treatment of cervical spine pain syndromes using various methods, which were further analyzed. These articles were published between 2006 and 2019. Based on the analysis of titles and abstracts, five studies were excluded. Then another three studies were excluded based on the analysis of full texts. In total, 8 studies were excluded. Finally, the analysis of data contained in 14 studies was performed.
Results. It has been observed that pain is one of the most common symptoms of cervical spine disorders. Most often it is assessed using the VAS visual-analog scale. Based on the analysis of 14 studies, it is found that after the application of special physiotherapy techniques, pain is reduced.
Conclusions. Based on the analysis performed, it is concluded that the most commonly used method of measuring pain in patients before and after therapy is the VAS visual-analogue scale. After analyzing the results of selected studies, it can be clearly stated that special methods have a beneficial effect on reducing pain in patients with cervical pain syndrome, based on the average values before and after therapy.

P. Majos, M. Kiljański, K. Markowski, Z. Śliwiński – Analysis of pelvis statics in amateur swimmers and recreational runners. Fizjoterapia Polska 2020; 20(1); 100-105

Abstract
Introduction. In recent years, an increasing number of people are choosing to be physically active. The most popular sports include swimming, running or cycling. Disorders of pelvic statics can affect the incidence of injuries during physical activity.
Objective. The main objective of this study is to show the relationship between proper pelvic statics and the incidence of injuries during amateur running or swimming based on analysis of available literature.
Material and methods. A review of the current literature available on the given topic was carried out. The materials needed to analyze the topic come from specialized magazines and articles found on the Internet. Internet search engines were used: Google Scholar and PubMed.
Discussion. Running is a popular physical activity around the world. Musculoskeletal injuries in runners are common and can be attributed to the inability to control the pelvic balance in the frontal plane. The pelvis also plays a significant role in swimming. Its correct position allows you to maintain optimal movement of the lower limbs, which results in greater economy and increased speed.
Conclusions. Incorrect pelvic statics affect the incidence of injuries of the lower limb muscles. The pelvis position modifies the economics of walking, running and swimming. The symmetry of the pelvis during swimming determines the correct technique and increases the efficiency of the lower limbs.
