Fizjoterapia Polska 2021; 21(4); 190-203

Abstract
Osteoarthritis is the most common form of human joint pathology. It is estimated that it affects about 6% of the world’s population. In addition to the hand and knee joints, the hip joint is one of the most common joints affected by OA.
The study included 59 randomly selected patients (from a group of over 600 people operated in a similar period) of the Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation Department of the Centre for Rehabilitation and Orthopaedics in Krakow, who underwent THA due to advanced degenerative changes using a cementless prosthesis.
The objective of the study was to compare the early and late outcomes of the procedure (patient’s fitness level and subjective assessment) using the anterolateral (according to Watson-Jones) and lateral (McFarland and Osborne as modified by Hardinge) approach.
The obtained results confirm better outcomes in terms of the abduction strength scale (SO%), HHS, VAS, frequency of the Trendelenburg sign and partially mobility (external rotation) in relation to short-term follow-up (especially after 6 and 12 weeks), but not long-term follow-up (after 24 weeks and 11-12 years).
It was found that people who underwent surgery using the lateral approach (according to Hardinge) recover faster than people who underwent surgery with the use of the anterolateral approach (according to Watson-Jones).

Abstract
This study shows an analysis of two rehabilitation methods in order to determine the differences between groups and changes after the therapy in terms of reducing pain, restoration of mobility and proper function of the cervical spine. The study was conducted on a group of 80 patients referred to rehabilitation due to restricted mobility and pain in the cervical spine, which resulted in impairment in everyday life. Patients were divided into two groups: group 1 consisted of 40 patients treated with PNF concept, and group 2 consisted of 40 patients treated with manual therapy elements. The study used a survey: Functional Index Scale and Oswestry scale for cervical and McGill pain Questionnaire. Additionally range of motion in certain planes was measured by the CROM device. Statistically significant differences were obtained in both groups of patients according to their individual rehabilitation program based on PNF concept and elements of manual therapy. However, patients who received PNF treatment showed greater improvement in mobility, function and pain relief. Results based analysis shows that therapy in group 1 and 2 was efficient, however PNF method proved to be more effective in comparison to treatment with manual therapy elements.

Abstract
Introduction. Contemporary sports physiotherapy has various methods of treating patients. Currently, Kinesiology Taping has become one of the most popular and inherent prophylactic methods supporting treatment after injuries within the musculoskeletal system. This technique allows the space between the skin and the fascia to be opened, which allows for better microcirculation and thus faster regeneration processes.
Objective. The objective of the study was to assess the pain and the results of Kinesiology Taping in the studied volleyball players after injuries of various parts of the body.
Materials and method. The study assessed the effect of Kinesiology Taping as a physiotherapeutic method that is commonly used after injuries in professional volleyball players. The study covered 72 players diagnosed with a motor organ dysfunction that occurred during physical activity related to practicing a given discipline.
Results. The study showed the relationship between the change in pain intensity assessed using the VAS scale and the application of Kinesiology Taping (Student’s t-test). The test showed a relationship between the use of taping and the reduction of pain, which was statistically significant for all injured parts of the body (p < 0.05).
Conclusions. In the assessment of the studied volleyball players, Kinesiology Taping of the areas of the body presented in the study was effective. There was a decrease in the value of pain assessed according to the scale.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG13C49A

Abstract
Purpose of this study. Evaluation of the patient’s life quality after operational treatment of the breast cancer – mastectomy, and determination of any correlation between made rehabilitation and participation in a support group.
Material and methods. The research was conducted using a questionnaire that included open and closed questions, it had 25 questions concerning patient’s condition before and after operation.
Results. Most women use physiotherapy (88%) and support offered by Amazon Clubs (88%). The most popular form of rehabilitation appeared to be kinesiotherapy (94%) and massage (70%). It was observed that the upper limb at operated side had reduced efficiency, after operation as good it was assumed only by 16% of total. Most women stated that their emotional condition had not changed after operation (32%) or slightly worsen (24%). None of the women declared lack of acceptance for their condition after amputation. As many as 48% did not seen any influence of the mastectomy on the quality of life, and for 36% the change was negative.
Conclusions. It may not be clearly stated if bigger influence on the self assessment of the quality of life has directly only physiotherapy or the Amazon Club that builds so important psychosocial relations, it proves complexity of the rehabilitation treatment. It is required to combine oncologic treatment with physiotherapeutic procedures and activity of social organizations, as all these aspects have beneficial influence on the women’s self-esteem after mastectomy.
