Abstract
Introduction. A mastectomy is a common treatment for breast cancer. In Poland, the vast majority of women after mastectomy use an external breast prosthesis.
Objective. The aim of the study was to identify differences in the weight-bearing distribution between women in the early and late period after mastectomy.
Material and methodology. 42 women after unilateral complete or radical amputation of the breast were qualified for the study. The study consisted of 3 parts: anthropometric measurements, measurements of the circumference of the upper limbs, assessment of the weight-bearing distribution using the stabilometric platform.
Results. Within the group of women in the early post-mastectomy period, the weight-bearing distribution was similar between the amputated and non-amputated sides in test with and without external breast prothesis. This has also been observed within the group of women in the late post-mastectomy period. There was no statistical difference between both studied groups. The tests were carried out with and without external breast prosthesis and the results indicate no significant effect of prosthesis on the symmetry of the weight-bearing distribution nor the percentage of load on the amputated and non-amputated sides of the body.
Conclusions. Lymphodema occurs in women in both early and late period after mastectomy however that occurrence does not affect  the nature of the asymmetry of the weight- bearing distribution  between the amputated and non-amputated body sides; The breast prosthesis does not have a significant impact on the weight-bearing distribution between the amputated and non-amputated sides. The analyzed issue requires further comprehensive research.

Katarzyna Dmitruk, Jacek Klawe, Małgorzata Tafil-Klawe, Jolanta Jeżewska – Valueas of posturography parameters during the process of keeping body balance for dancers. Fizjoterapia Polska 2004; 4(1); 47-51

Abstract

Background. Process of maintaing balance during upright stance is a very specific motor activity which requires correct co-operation of 3 components equilibrium system: visul, vestibular and proprioceptive. One of the objective method assessment of body stability is posturography (recordings of centre of foot pressure – COFP). The goal of the present study was to evaluate body stability of children dancers. Material and methods. Our research involved 30 children dancers divided into 2 groups: 9-12-year old and 13-16-year-old. Children no-dancers was the control group.Results. The posturography examinations provided us the less values of parameters for dancers as compared with control group, besides parameter – co-ordination which was higher. Conclusions. Obtained results indicate better body stability and visual motor co-ordination of children dancers. The results from this work support a differences between children dancers and no-dancers in their postural control.

Magdalena Goliwąs, Lech Furmaniuk, Jacek Lewandowski – Badanie kontroli postawy przy użyciu bieżni rehabilitacyjnej, ocena rzetelności i wiarygodności pomiarów. FP 2013; 13(2); 22-27

Streszczenie
Wstęp. Zadaniem pracy jest ocena rzetelności pomiaru różnych parametrów ruchu środka nacisku stóp przy użyciu bieżni rehabilitacyjnej w warunkach statycznych.

Materiał i metoda.

Abstract

In children with Cerebral palsy (CP), according to the definition, motor disorders occur.
The primary aim of the rehabilitation in this group of children is to support the development of the best quality of motor and posture patterns. Presented study describes the effects of non-invasive physical therapy, based on Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT) connected with serial inhibiting casts application, on postural control and gait pattern improvement in 5 years old child with spastic hemiplegia.
Functional assessment, before and after treatment, included: clinical measures of spasticity, weight – bearing distribution between body sides, posturography testing and gait analysis. Applied therapy influenced on: reduction of spasticity in the affected limb and improvement in postural control and gait parameters. Both range of movement (ROM) deficit and spasticity angle (AOS) in knee and ankle decreased and effected on postural control and gait improvement.
Obtained results demonstrate that non-invasive procedures of physical intervention, connected with serial inhibiting casts application, can be successful method of spasticity reduction, postural control and gait improvement in young children with spastic unilateral CP. Early detection of spasticity of triceps contracture and proper physical intervention may eliminate the need for invasive intervention and its associated risks in this population.
