Abstract
Objective. The aim of this study was to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of various therapeutic methods used in the treatment of lymphedema. By thoroughly understanding the mechanisms of these methods and assessing their impact on patient outcomes, the study sought to provide comprehensive knowledge on lymphedema therapy.
Materials and methods. A 33-year-old female patient with a normal body mass index (BMI) and an active lifestyle presented with symptoms of edema in the right lower limb, persisting since 2014. Her clinical history noted issues with the lymphatic system dating back to childhood. The patient reported recurrent tonsillitis, lymphadenitis, and the presence of a lymphatic fistula. Physiotherapeutic interventions were undertaken to halt the progression of edema and prevent its transition to the final, most advanced stage.
Results. The edema in this case was idiopathic, meaning its etiology was not clearly defined, which complicated the determination of appropriate therapeutic actions. Nevertheless, the therapy administered resulted in temporary improvement and stimulated lymphatic flow. The duration and sustainability of these effects could not be assessed, as only a single therapeutic session was conducted.
Conclusions. The edema presented in this case was idiopathic, meaning its etiology was not clearly defined, which complicated the specification of therapeutic actions. Nonetheless, the therapy administered contributed to a temporary improvement and activation of lymph flow. The duration and sustainability of the observed effects could not be determined, as only a single therapeutic session was performed.
