The influence of game-based physical education on physical fitness. A systematic review

Abstract
Background. A lack of exercise among students can lead to impaired body function. Currently, physical education classes remain monotonous and lack innovation, resulting in suboptimal participation. Game-based sports offer an alternative for increasing student engagement in physical education.
Research objectives. This study sought to ascertain how game-based physical education instruction affects the development of physical fitness.
Methods. Several journal databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and ScienceDirect were searched for this study. The review included research on game-based physical education and its effects on students’ physical fitness published in the last ten years. Articles that did not meet the inclusion criteria—such as those not addressing game-based physical education or physical fitness—were excluded. Using databases from PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Web of Science, a total of 117 publications were identified. Nine carefully selected, peer-reviewed articles addressed the need for this systematic change. Standard operating procedures for this study were established using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines.
Results. Based on the results of this comprehensive study, it is evident that game-based physical education can improve physical fitness.
Conclusion. Game-based physical education is proven to improve physical fitness and can be recommended as an option for physical education in schools.
