Abstract
Purpose. Physical therapists (PTs) have direct patient contact, they susceptible to Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMDs), its prevalence among PTs in Jordan has not been reported yet. The significance of this study relies on providing descriptive data about the PTs musculoskeletal disorders in Jordan. Method. A web-based online survey (Google Forms) was used to create the survey; it contained a cover letter, a consent form and a hyperlink that directed the participants to the survey. The questionnaire was based on the Standardized Nordic Questionnaire with some modifications. It was administered to 50 PTs through e-mail messages, 46 PTs returned completed surveys (92% response). The data were analyzed using SPPS version 20 at alpha level of 0.05. Results. Reported 12-month prevalence of WRMDs among Jordanian PTs was 71.7%. WRMDs was significantly higher in female PTs (p = 0.038). The low back 6o.6% was significantly the most commonly affected body part (p > 0.001), followed by the neck 48.5% with (p = 0.002).. More than fifty percent of the PTs with WRMDs were found to be younger than 34 years 51.1%. Treating large number of patients “more than ten” in a day was reported by most 42.4% of the respondents. PTs who had worked at general hospital had high WRMDs prevalence 66.6%. Conclusions. The prevalence of low back pain (LBP) and other WRMDs among PTs in Jordan is relatively high. It affected their performance of daily activities at home and away from home, it is also contributed sometimes to their sick leaves.

Piotr Wróbel, Rafał Trąbka, Beata Niedźwiedzka – High-tone power therapy in the treatment of low back pain. Fizjoterapia Polska 2003; 3(2); 205-209

Abstract
This work presents an analysis of the possibilities of applying an energotonic therapy device in the treatment of low back pain. The theoretical and practical foundations are discussed, using the example of a HiToP 184 device. The goal of the article is to review the use of energotonic therapy in clinical practice. The material was collected at a private specialist practice in Cracow.

Krzysztof Kassolik, Waldemar Andrzejewski, Dariusz Chołodecki, Andrzej Steciwko – Medical massage in the treatment of non-specific low back pain. Fizjoterapia Polska 2004; 4(2); 107-111

Abstract

Background. Non-specific low back pain is a serious social problem. Most patients are unable to specify the particular event that caused the pain to appear. The typical treatment methods, i.e. pharmacotherapy and surgery, seldom lead to the desired results. One effective method of treating non-specific low back pain is physiotherapy, in which medical massage plays an important role. This is a therapeutic procedure based on theoretical and clinical research in medicine and related scientific fields. Material and methods. We studied 40 ambulatory patients, 31 men and 9 men, average age 47. The patients were evaluated using a 7-point scale of pain intensity and a patient evaluation chart, containing a comprehensive assessment of the musculo-skeletal system, including the functional status of other systems directly involved in motor function. Results. Before treatment, the patients’ subjective reports of pain intensity averaged 3.57 ± 1.1 points (moderately intense pain). After massage treatment, 77% of the patients (31 persons) reported no pain at all (0 points), and 23% (9 persons) reported minimal pain (1 point). Conclusions. The application of medical massage in this pathology significantly reduced the reported intensity of pain in all the patients we studied. Medical massage can be applied as an effective therapeutic procedure in managing pain for persons with non-specific low back pain.

J. Rdzanek – Evaluation of the effectiveness of selected physical therapy programs in patients with 1st and 2nd degree spondylolisthesis on the basis of stabilographic tests and muscle torque in statistics. Fizjoterapia Polska 2020; 20(2); 6-19

Abstract

Objective. The objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of the proposed treatment programs for patients with 1st and 2nd degree spondylolisthesis.
Material and method. The study involved 40 patients aged 50-80 with radiologically diagnosed 1st and 2nd degree spondylolisthesis. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups: a group treated according to the standard program used in NFZ (National Health Fund) institutions and a group treated according to the proprietary rehabilitation program. In each of the patients, the intensity of pain was measured, and stabilographic measurements, torque measurements during flexion and extension of the torso under static conditions were carried out.
Results. Mann-Whitney U analysis showed significant differences for most variables measured between treatment groups (p < 0.05). According to the results of descriptive statistics, patients treated using the method of a routine rehabilitation program applied at an NFZ institution achieved significantly higher results in the measurement of the intensity of pain PO and during stabilographic tests, standing on both legs with both eyes closed PO [mm] than patients treated using myofascial trigger point therapy (p < 0.05). On the other hand, significantly higher results in stabilographic measurements with open eyes PO [mm] and when straightening the torso under static conditions (Nm) were achieved by a group of patients treated using myofascial trigger point therapy (p < 0.05).
Conclusions. The results of the study allowed for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the proposed treatment programs for patients with 1st and 2nd degree spondylolisthesis, and then to decide on the modification of routinely used treatment programs for this disease in NFZ institutions.
