Abstract
Through this narrative review, we attempted to summarize and dissect the multiple dimensions affecting youth sports participation in India, using current literature to cover a broad spectrum of socio-cultural, economic, educational, and policy infrastructure; physical health; as well as media and technology perspectives. The analysis reveals that youth sports engagement is significantly influenced by familial, peer, and community dynamics, alongside cultural attitudes and gender disparities. Economic barriers, including affordability and accessibility of sports facilities, pose challenges, particularly for marginalized communities. Educational institutions play a pivotal role in fostering sports participation but face challenges in balancing academic pressures. Policy and infrastructure deficiencies hinder participation, necessitating robust interventions and community-based initiatives. Health considerations underscore the importance of managing injury risks and promoting inclusive programs. Moreover, media and technology emerge as powerful influencers, shaping youth attitudes and behaviors towards sports. This review also emphasizes the need for nuanced interventions and further research to more effectively reduce disparities and ensure inclusive youth sports participation in India.

Abstract:
Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is prevalent among IT professionals and often accompanied by psychological symptoms such as depression, stress, and sleep disturbances. While conventional treatments primarily target pain management, holistic approaches like yoga show promising results in addressing both physical and psychosomatic factors. This randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to assess the impact of a yoga intervention on depression, stress, and sleep quality in IT professionals with CLBP. A total of 83 IT professionals with CLBP were randomly allocated to either a yoga (n = 40) intervention group or a control group (n = 40) receiving standard care. The intervention group underwent a structured yoga program tailored for CLBP, while the control group followed a standard care protocol. Outcome measures, including pain intensity, depression levels, perceived stress, and sleep quality, were assessed using validated standard questionnaires. Preliminary analysis reveals significant enhancements in the yoga intervention group compared to the control group. Specifically, participants in the yoga group reported a statistically significant reduction in pain intensity (p < 0.05), along with notable decreases in depression scores (p < 0.05), anxiety score (p < 0.05), and stress levels (p < 0.05). Additionally, the yoga intervention group demonstrated enhanced sleep quality (p < 0.05) compared to the control group. This RCT provides compelling evidence for the efficacy of yoga as an adjunctive therapy for CLBP management in IT professionals. The findings emphasize the potential of yoga in alleviating both physical and psychological symptoms associated with CLBP. Healthcare providers may consider incorporating yoga into treatment programs for CLBP in IT professionals to optimize outcomes and enhance overall well-being. Moreover, these results emphasize the importance of holistic interventions in addressing the complex nature of CLBP in the workplace.

Abstract:
Background. Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) can lead to reduced exercise capacity and physical activity levels. This study assessed the impact of a 12-week yoga intervention on exercise capacity, symptoms, and quality of life in patients with varicose veins and CVI.
Methods. This randomized controlled trial recruited 80 patients with varicose veins or CVI from a cardiovascular surgery clinic. Participants were randomized to either a yoga group (n = 40) or a control group (n = 40) that received standard care. The primary outcome was the change in 6-minute walk test (6MWT) distance from baseline to 12 weeks. Secondary outcomes included leg edema, pain levels, and disease-specific quality of life.
Results. At 12 weeks, the yoga group showed significantly greater improvement in 6MWT distance compared to controls (46.2 meters vs 12.8 meters, p < 0.001). The yoga group also had greater reductions in leg edema (−2.1 cm vs −0.6 cm, p = 0.003) and pain during the 6MWT (VAS score change −2.9 vs −0.7, p < 0.001). Quality of life scores improved more in the yoga group (mean increase 18.7 vs 6.4 points, p = 0.02).
Conclusions. A 12-week yoga program improved exercise capacity, reduced edema and pain, and enhanced quality of life compared to standard care in patients with varicose veins and CVI. Yoga can be a beneficial adjunctive intervention for this population.

Abstract:
Background. Elite athletes, who undergo distinctive physiological adaptations due to intense training and competition, present a unique opportunity for understanding the impacts of elite sports engagement on haematological profiles.
Purpose. This study explores haematological variations among three distinct groups: Elite Medalists, Non-Medalists, and Non-Sports Individuals.
Methods. A meticulously selected cohort of 300 athletes, aged 18 to 25, formed the study’s foundation, categorized based on their performance in competitions or non-participation in competitive sports. The investigation assessed average concentrations of key blood parameters, including platelets, hemoglobin, hematocrit, red blood cells, lymphocytes, eosinophils, and white blood cells, unveiling a comprehensive view of haematological profiles across these groups.
Results. Statistical analysis, utilizing one-way ANOVA followed by LSD Post Hoc Test, illuminated significant improvements (P < 0.05) in Lymphocytes, Monocytes, Eosinophils, White Blood Cells, Red Blood Cells, Hematocrit, and Platelet counts among the three groups. These findings underscore meaningful distinctions in haematological profiles, emphasizing the potential impact of athletic engagement on blood parameters.
Conclusion. This study offers valuable insights into the haematological variations associated with athletic performance, advocating for tailored health considerations based on athletic engagement.

Abstract:
Background and Aim of the Study: The continuous evolution of sports and athletics necessitates innovative training strategies to optimize athletes’ performance and physical fitness. High-Intensity Circuit Training (HICT) has emerged as a time-efficient method that combines high-intensity exercises with minimal rest, targeting various muscle groups to enhance physical fitness components. Therefore, this systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of HICT on physical fitness components among athletes to provide a clear, evidence-based understanding of HICT’s benefits and limitations.
Material and Methods: A comprehensive search strategy was employed, retrieving articles published before September 24, 2023, from databases including the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, and Google Scholar. The selection process followed the PRISMA guidelines, focusing on studies that assessed the impact of HICT on athletes’ physical fitness. The quality of included studies was assessed using the PEDro scale, and data synthesis was conducted to summarize findings on various physical fitness components.
Results: The review included 13 studies, highlighting HICT’s positive effects on muscle strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, power, body composition, and cardiovascular endurance. Improvements were noted in neuromuscular efficiency, muscle power, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness, which are crucial for athletic performance. However, the review also identified variability in training adaptations and the need for sport-specific exercises to maximize the benefits of HICT for speed and power enhancements.
Conclusions: HICT is a versatile and effective training modality that can significantly improve various aspects of athletes’ physical fitness. Incorporating targeted, sport-specific exercises into HICT programs could further optimize performance enhancements. Despite promising findings, the review acknowledges methodological heterogeneity among studies and calls for further research to refine HICT protocols for athletes.

Abstract
India has been affected by novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) since January 2020. It was declared as a pandemic outbreak and a nationwide lock down was implemented to reduce the transmission of infection. As a lack of effective treatment method or vaccine development against the disease, social distancing and home confinement was considered to be the only solution. The COVID-19 has a dangerous effect on the quality of life of the public. The aim of the present study was to assess the life style changes among the public in tamilnadu during the outbreak. This web based survey was initiated to asses and compare the life style changes during lockdown period of COVID-19 outbreak in Tamil Nadu. By July 10, 2020 a total of 236 participants submitted the responses and the collected data were included for the analysis. The study contained a planned questionnaire that finds out demographic, dietary habits information, screen exposure, sleep time and lifestyle habits information through online survey. The present study findings suggest that significant influences of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown on the majority of employed individuals with history of no comorbidity by decreasing Physical activity (60.16%), increase in screen time (52.9%) and sleep per day (43.2%), decrease consumption of vegetables (36.4%) and variation in fruits and meat consumption. This study elicits the importance of various factors to be considered before the commencement and policy about the Lockdown and its durations. These findings need to be further confirmed with studies of larger population size to gain higher insight towards healthy lockdown against COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract
Anthropometric measurements play a crucial role in assessing metabolic variables and predicting cardiovascular risk. Neck circumference (NC), a simple and time-saving measure, has emerged as a potential indicator of central obesity and a predictor for cardiovascular risk factors. This study aims to explore the correlation between NC and lipid profile, emphasizing its significance as a screening tool for overweight individuals. The primary objectives of this cross-sectional study are to determine whether NC alone can predict overweight and obesity and to assess the association between NC and cardiovascular risk factors. Ethical clearance was obtained, and written consent was obtained from 100 subjects (50 males and 50 females) aged 25 to 50 years undergoing master health checkups. Exclusion criteria included systemic diseases, smoking, alcohol consumption, medication, and diet restrictions. Anthropometric measurements, including NC, BMI, and lipid profile, were recorded. Significant gender-based differences were observed in NC, with males having higher values. NC correlated positively with BMI, weight, cholesterol, LDL, and triglycerides in both genders. NC > 38 cm for males and > 34 cm for females were identified as optimal cutoff points for determining overweight/obesity. The study also revealed associations between NC and blood pressure, heart rate, and lipid profile. Neck circumference demonstrates a strong correlation with lipid profile factors and cardiovascular risk, making it a potential screening tool for upper-body obesity. Gender-specific cutoff values were established for identifying overweight and obese subjects. NC’s simplicity, cultural acceptability, and ease of measurement suggest its utility in primary care settings for obesity assessment and cardiovascular risk prediction. Further research is warranted to establish standardized NC cutoff values for the Indian population.

Abstract
Individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) often encounter challenges related to both physical and mental well-being. Recognising the widely acknowledged benefits of yoga in promoting overall health, this study aimed to assess the impact of a 12-week yoga program on heart rate variability (HRV), an indicator of autonomic nervous system function, in healthy young female adults with ID. A total of 56 healthy young female adults with ID participated in the study, engaging in a tailored 12-week yoga program. Regular yoga sessions, adapted to their abilities and needs, were provided. HRV was measured using electrocardiography (ECG) at baseline and post-intervention. Age-matched peers with ID, who did not partake in the yoga program constituted the control group. Following the 12-week yoga intervention, a significant (P < 0.05) reduction was observed in systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and pulse pressure (PP) within the yoga group compared to the control group. Short-term HRV analysis revealed a significant (P < 0.05) increase in time domain parameters among the yoga group participants. In the frequency domain, high frequency (HF n.u) exhibited a significant (P < 0.05) increase, whereas low frequency (LF n.u) and LF/HF ratio displayed a significant decrease after yoga practice. This study suggests that yoga practice positively influences heart rate variability in young female adults with ID, potentially enhancing autonomic nervous system function and overall well-being. Implementing yoga programs tailored to the specific needs of individuals with ID may represent a valuable strategy for improving their physical and mental health. Further research is essential to validate these findings and explore the broader implications of integrating yoga into the care and support of individuals with ID.

Abstract
Background and aim of the study. This study aimed to investigate the effects of Withania somnifera supplementation on physical and physiological performance parameters in male adolescent national-level football players undergoing regular football training. Material and methods. Eighteen participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group receiving Withania somnifera (WS) supplementation and a control group receiving a placebo. Performance variables, including linear sprint (LS), agility (COD), peak lactate accumulation (PLA), and maximum oxygen consumption (VO2Max), were assessed before and after a one-week intervention. Statistical analyses included simple descriptive statistics, ANCOVA and pairwise comparisons. Results. WS supplementation did not result in significant improvements in LS or COD performance. However, a significant reduction in PLA was observed in the experimental group, suggesting enhanced lactate management during high-intensity exercise. Furthermore, the experimental group exhibited a significant increase in VO2Max max, indicating improved aerobic capacity and cardiovascular efficiency. Conclusions. While WS supplementation did not lead to immediate improvements in sprinting and agility, its potential benefits in reducing lactate accumulation and enhancing aerobic fitness are noteworthy. Sprinting and agility may require a more holistic training approach. The study highlights the need for long-term research to explore WS’s extended implications and individual variations in supplement responses. This study provides valuable insights into the complex effects of WS supplementation on physical and physiological performance in football players. While further research is needed to understand long-term effects fully, WS shows promise as a supplement for enhancing exercise tolerance and aerobic capacity in athletes.

Abstract
Background of the Study. Physical fitness is crucial for athletes, enabling them to endure rigorous training and meet competitive demands effectively. It encompasses both health-related attributes, such as cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength, and skill-related components like agility and speed. Various training methods, including circuit training (CT), have been explored to enhance fitness levels among athletes. Despite the growing popularity of CT in various sports, comprehensive research on its effects on athletes’ physical fitness has been limited.
Aim. The present review aims to clarify the effects of CT on physical fitness among team sports Athletes.
Material and Methods. In accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA) Statement guidelines, the systematic search of PubMed and Google Scholar databases was undertaken on the 28th of August, 2023, to identify the reported studies, using a combination of keywords related to CT, physical fitness, and athletes. Of the 566 studies, only 18 articles met all eligibility criteria and were included in the systematic review. The assessment was performed on the Pedro scale, and the study quality included in the eighteen studies was fair (ranging from 5 to 6).
Results. The results showed that speed (n = 12) was the aspect of physical fitness studied in CT interventions, followed by muscular strength (n = 10), power (n = 13), balance (n = 2), body composition (n = 2), agility (n = 14), flexibility (n = 5), muscular endurance (n = 7), and cardiovascular endurance (n = 8). Existing evidence concludes that CT significantly impacts speed, muscular strength, power, balance, flexibility, agility, body composition, and cardiovascular endurance.
Conclusions: The CT method is one of the ways of physical fitness training aiming at general development, which includes all the physical aspects. Furthermore, there is still limited numbers of evidence showing the effect of CT on agility, body composition, and speed.
