Abstract

Goal. Comprehensive evaluation of the body posture in the early school-age children and determining the prevalence of the postural disorders in the population. Estimation of impact of the BMI on the occurrence of the disorders in relation to a child’s gender, and answering the question whether the frequency of the disorders increases with age.
Materials and Methods. The study included 285 school children from the grades 1-3, from a primary school located in Lodz. The study population consisted of 135 girls and 150 boys, aged 6-9 years. As the research method, the visual examination has been used.  The body posture has been assessed in sagittal and frontal planes. And the dynamic gait assessment has been performed. With the observation-based postural assessment method, the spine curvature and the ribcage curvature have been evaluated. An important part of the research has been the observation of the back in the bent forward position, using the Bertrand’s test.
Results. Within the study population of children from the grades 1-3, we have found large percentage of children with the posture disorders, 30.53% in girls and 37.54% in boys. It has been shown, that the most common posture disorder in the early school-age children is the asymmetrical alignment of the shoulder blades. This has been true for, respectively, 37.77% of the girls and 31.33% of the boys. Most at risk for the abnormalities being developed, has been the group of the 7-years-olds. No statistically significant dependency has been found between the impact of the BMI on the posture disorders, in relation to a child’s gender. It has been established that, in the study population, the BMI has had an impact on the valgus knees deformity.
Conclusions. The research has shown true importance of the children posture disorders issue. The prevalence rate of these disorders should prompt to organize screening programs in schools. This will definitely help to quickly establish any deviations from the normal status and will motivate parents and guardians to seek an orthopedic advice or join a rehabilitation program.

A. Przedborska, Ma. Misztal, J. W. Raczkowski – Impact of the deep electromagnetic stimulation on the level of the pain sensation in patients with the rheumatoid arthritisFP 2016;16(1);74-81

Abstract
Introduction. Treatment of the rheumatoid arthritis includes the simultaneous actions against the pain, the inflammation and to regulate the muscle tension. The search for new and effective methods of treatment is continuously under way. There appeared this new physical method of deep electromagnetic stimulation. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment of pain with the deep electromagnetic stimulation method, in the rheumatoid arthritis disorder cases.
Materials and Methods. The research has been conducted on a group of 50 patients with the rheumatoid arthritis, who have undergone a series of 10 deep electromagnetic stimulation treatments, applied to the most painful joints. Evaluation of the effectiveness and efficiency of the therapy has been done on the basis of the VAS scale, the Laitinen scale, the assessment of duration of the morning stiffness, and the subjective assessment of the result of the treatment made by the patients.
Results. After the series of treatments, the statistically significant (p <0.0001) reduction of the pain intensity has been found, measured with the VAS and the Laitinen scale  (the respective median (IQR): 8 (7-8) before the treatment vs 4 (3-5) after the treatment in the VAS scale, and 10 (8-12) before the treatment vs 6 (4-8) after the treatment in the Laitinen scale. Also observed, has been the statistically significant (p <0.0001) reduction of the duration of the morning stiffness, respectively 108±27 minutes before the treatment vs 67±34 minutes after the treatment.
The factors significantly affecting the result of the treatment were: age, BMI and the severity of the disorder.
Conclusions. Deep electromagnetic stimulation is an effective therapy method in patients with the rheumatoid arthritis, it significantly reduces the intensity of pain, the amount of painkiller medications being taken, and the duration of the morning stiffness.

Abstract

A human hand is a highly specialized organ, with a wide range of functions. The aim of this report is to present physiotherapy treatment of the patient after surgery, which has resulted from an extensive injury to his hand, forearm and arm. During rehabilitation process, the ICF guidelines and the patient’s concerns, as well as his expected functional goals, have been observed. Intermediate therapy and irradiation phenomena, standard of the PNF concept, have allowed to minimize the risk of irritation of the grafted soft tissue and skin, and of damage to the internal connections within the coadunate areas of the hand and thumb. The report contains illustrations showing the stimuli applied, it also discusses other therapeutic actions, which had been employed.

Abstract
Purpose of this study. Evaluation of the patient’s life quality after operational treatment of the breast cancer – mastectomy, and determination of any correlation between made rehabilitation and participation in a support group.
Material and methods. The research was conducted using a questionnaire that included open and closed questions, it had 25 questions concerning patient’s condition before and after operation.
Results. Most women use physiotherapy (88%) and support offered by Amazon Clubs (88%). The most popular form of rehabilitation appeared to be kinesiotherapy (94%) and massage (70%). It was observed that the upper limb at operated side had reduced efficiency, after operation as good it was assumed only by 16% of total. Most women stated that their emotional condition had not changed after operation (32%) or slightly worsen (24%). None of the women declared lack of acceptance for their condition after amputation. As many as 48% did not seen any influence of the mastectomy on the quality of life, and for 36% the change was negative.
Conclusions. It may not be clearly stated if bigger influence on the self assessment of the quality of life has directly only physiotherapy or the Amazon Club that builds so important psychosocial relations, it proves complexity of the rehabilitation treatment. It is required to combine oncologic treatment with physiotherapeutic procedures and activity of social organizations, as all these aspects have beneficial influence on the women’s self-esteem after mastectomy.
