Abstract
Objective. This study aimed to investigate the effects of meditation and deep breathing exercises on archery accuracy, with a specific focus on their impact on cardiovascular endurance.
Methods. A two-group pretest–posttest experimental design was employed. The sample consisted of 20 athletes aged 12–14 years, with an average training experience of 2.7 ± 6.6 years and an average of three competitions per year. Participants were divided into two groups: a meditation group (MG) and a deep breathing group (DBG). Both groups underwent 18 training sessions over six weeks with identical training doses (sets, duration, and recovery). All participants practiced archery at a distance of 30 meters for 30 minutes. Data collection included a 30-meter accuracy test and a multistage fitness test to assess cardiovascular endurance. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA in SPSS 26.
Results. The Shapiro–Wilk test confirmed the normality of the data distribution, and the homogeneity test (p > 0.05) indicated that the data originated from the same population. Two-way ANOVA revealed: (1) differences in cardiovascular endurance between the MG and DBG groups (0.041 < 0.05), (2) differences in 30-meter archery accuracy based on cardiovascular endurance (0.000 < 0.05), and (3) an interaction between MG and DBG on 30-meter archery accuracy based on cardiovascular endurance (0.025 < 0.05).
Conclusions. Deep breathing exercises demonstrated more significant improvements in cardiovascular endurance compared to meditation exercises. Enhanced cardiovascular endurance likely contributed to improved hand stability, mental focus, and coordination during archery competitions. This study highlights the need for further research with larger sample sizes and more advanced measurement methods.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG00E1LXFF

Abstract
Although instruments to measure footwork ability in sports performance have been investigated in previous studies, an instrument relevant to the movement characteristics of Tarung Derajat martial arts has not been found. The purpose of this study was to develop a sensor-based footwork instrument for Tarung Derajat martial arts. This study began with determining the elements of the instrument, design, selection of physical elements to be measured, sensor device components, assembly of the device, characterization of the relevance of movement in Tarung Derajat martial arts, and testing. The feasibility test of the device involved 4 experts (instrumentation, sports measurement tests, Tarung Derajat martial arts, and information technology) and 6 Tarung Derajat martial arts athletes (aged 18.53 ± 0.52 years). Then the test-retest reliability involved 33 Tarung Derajat martial arts athletes, consisting of male (n = 19; aged 19.21 ± 0.71 years) and female (n = 14; aged 18.79 ± 0.80 years). Data were analyzed using percentages, correlations, and t-tests. The results of the study showed that the sensor-based footwork instrument was very feasible to be used for Tarung Derajat martial arts, with a percentage of 86.50. The results of the test-retest reliability showed a high correlation coefficient (n = 33; r = 0.897; Sig. < 0.05; n = 19; r = 0.802; Sig. < 0.05; n = 14; r = 0.823;            Sig. < 0.05). Then, the t-test showed that there was no significant difference in the results of the footwork ability test between male and female participants (Sig. > 0.05). Field trials with wider subjects are needed in future research, with more refined tool displays and designs.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG020ATIP

Abstract

Mental training has been recognized as an important component in improving sports performance. This article presents a literature review to identify and analyze effective mental training strategies for improving sports performance. The method used in this research is a literature review by collecting and analyzing related scientific studies from various data sources. The literature review included studies conducted within a relevant time and related to this topic. The literature review results showed that several mental training strategies have been proven effective in improving sports performance. These strategies include visualization, cognitive mapping, positive affirmations, emotion regulation, attention focus, and neurolinguistic programming. Visualization is a technique that involves creating a clear and detailed mental image of the movement or action to be performed in sports. Cognitive mapping involves visual images to improve processes and enhance the sport experience. Positive affirmation involves repeating positive thoughts or sentences to build confidence and increase motivation. Emotion regulation involves managing and controlling emotions that arise during practice and competition. Attention focus consists in shifting attention to what is relevant and important in sports. Neurolinguistic programming involves communication techniques and mental representations to change unwanted thoughts and behaviours. This literature review proves that mental rehearsal strategies can positively improve sports performance. However, it should be noted that the effectiveness of mental rehearsal strategies may vary depending on the sport context, individual characteristics, and other factors. Therefore, further research is needed to deepen the understanding of the appropriate application and effectiveness of mental training strategies in different types of sports. This study provides valuable insights for coaches, athletes, and sports practitioners to optimize athletes’ potential through appropriate mental rehearsal strategies.
