Abstract Introduction. Mini volleyball is a modified version of volleyball adapted in terms of facilities, infrastructure, number of players, and game rules. Objective. To determine the effectiveness of a mini volleyball learning model in improving the knowledge and technical skills of upper-grade male students based on Teaching Game for Understanding (TGfU), and to compare the outcomes of this model with other learning models. Methods. This research employs a research and development approach. Development research includes 10 steps: (1) gathering research results and information, (2) planning, (3) developing initial products, (4) conducting initial trials, (5) revising to create the main product, (6) conducting main field trials, (7) revising to create operational products, (8) conducting operational product trials, (9) final product revisions, and (10) disseminating and implementing developed products. The research was conducted from September 1 to December 31, 2022, in elementary schools in Bantul Regency. The effectiveness testing instruments used were the Independent Samples T-test and the Mann-Whitney Test. Results. The study showed that the TGfU-based mini volleyball learning model effectively improved knowledge, lower serves, upper serves, and lower passes. Based on the results, the difference in knowledge between the experimental and control groups was statistically significant, with a p-value of 0.026 (p < 0.05). Similarly, significant improvements were observed in lower serves, upper serves, and lower passes, with p-values of 0.000, 0.000, and 0.004, respectively (p < 0.05). Conclusion. The mini volleyball learning model based on TGfU positively impacts the knowledge and technical skills (lower passes, lower serves, and upper serves) of upper-grade male elementary school students.
