Abstract
Introduction. Coccydynia is defined as pain developing in the coccyx region. The condition is three times more common among women and people with obesity. Common treatments include corticosteroid injections, manual therapy, and physical modalities. However, there is limited research on the effectiveness of physical therapy interventions, particularly low-level laser therapy, in managing coccydynia.
Aim of the study. To determine the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy in improving sitting duration and daily activity participation among patients with coccydynia.
Materials and methods. This study was conducted in a private hospital in Chennai with 30 participants selected from an initial pool of 50 using random sampling. Participants were randomly assigned to two groups: the LLLT group (n = 15) received low-level laser therapy (LLLT), and the US group (n = 15) received ultrasound therapy (US). Both groups also received pelvic bridging exercises over a 2-week intervention period. Outcome measures included the Dallas Pain Questionnaire (DPQ) and the pain-free sitting duration (PFSD) scale.
Results. Both groups showed significant improvement in DPQ and PFSD scores (p < 0.0001). The LLLT group showed a reduction in DPQ scores from 71.60 to 39.40 and an increase in PFSD from 7.30 to 11.10. The US group showed a greater reduction in DPQ scores from 68.60 to 27.30 and a larger improvement in PFSD from 7.20 to 15.60. These findings indicate that while both therapies were effective, ultrasound therapy achieved a more pronounced reduction in pain and better functional outcomes than low-level laser therapy.
Conclusion. Both LLLT and ultrasound therapy effectively reduced pain and improved sitting tolerance in individuals with coccydynia. However, ultrasound therapy demonstrated superior clinical outcomes, making it a more effective conservative treatment option in this population.

Abstract Purpose. Depression is a widespread condition impacting global health. This study explored the effectiveness of a physiotherapy protocol in treating depression in women with major depression. Methods. Forty women aged 28–56 years with depression participated in the study. Random selection was used to divide them into two equal groups. Participants in the study group received selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and physiotherapy, while the control group participants were treated with SSRIs alone. Depression levels were evaluated using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) at five intervals: before treatment, after 2 weeks, after 4 weeks, and at 1- and 2-month follow-ups. Results. Both groups showed significant reductions in BDI-II scores at each time point compared to pre-treatment (p < 0.001). The study group demonstrated further significant decreases at 4 weeks post-treatment and at the 1-month follow-up compared to 2 weeks post-treatment (p = 0.01), but an increase at the 2-month follow-up compared to the 1-month follow-up (p < 0.001). The control group exhibited significant decreases at the 1- and 2-month follow-ups compared to 2 weeks post-treatment (p < 0.01) and at the 2-month follow-up compared to the 1-month follow-up (p < 0.01), but no significant differences between 2- and 4-weeks post-treatment (p > 0.05). Between the groups, the study group had greater decreases at 2 weeks (p < 0.05), 4 weeks (p < 0.001), and the 1-month follow-up (p < 0.01), with no significant differences at 2 months (p > 0.05). Conclusion. Combining manual therapy, exercise, and SSRIs effectively reduces depressive symptoms in the short term in women with major depression, highlighting the importance of physiotherapy in managing depression.

Abstract
Training at high intensity without proper warm-up and cool-down can cause shin splint injuries in runners. This may lead to a decline in the athlete’s performance during training and competition. This study aims to determine the effect of PNF training therapy on shin splint injuries in marathon runners. This research employs a quasi-experimental approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. Data collection methods include tests and measurements using a goniometer to assess joint range of motion (ROM) and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) to measure pain levels. The population in this study consisted of running athletes from the Yogyakarta running community, with a sample of 16 individuals selected based on specific criteria. The study results showed a significant average reduction in knee pain of 1.00 and ankle pain of 0.94. Additionally, an increase in knee ROM was observed: flexion increased by 7.81; extension by 7.82; adduction by 4.25; and abduction by 3.75. Ankle ROM also increased: dorsiflexion by 5.94, plantarflexion by 3.62, inversion by 3.57, and eversion by 2.68.
