Meta-analysis. Fizjoterapia Polska 2021; 21(5); 90-103

Abstract
Background. Kinesilogy Tape (KT) is widely used in patients with muscular disorders and pain. Objectives. To present the current body of knowledge on KT as a treatment method in patients with muscular disorders and pain. Design. Systematic review. Population. Patients with musculoskeletal disorders and pain. in whom KT was used.
Methods The papers were identified on the basis of term searches in digital research databases (PubMed, Medline, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CCTR), EMBASE Excerpta Medica, and Google Scholar). On the basis of the review of the available 152 research articles, 27 papers on muscular disorders and pain disorders were selected. Two of the authors of this review, working independently, selected the papers to be included in the analyzed sample, isolated the data, performed an assessment of the risk of bias, and assessed the quality of the evidence for the main effects using the IVS internal validity score (PEDro) approach. A simplified version of the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (OCEBM) system was used to evaluate the evidence. Results. There are too few prospective, controlled randomized trials on KT that include a sufficiently large cohort. Only few of the reviewed papers that discuss the principles of KT meet the criteria of scientifically rigorous research. Conclusions. There is a need for further clinical trials on the effectiveness of the use of KT method.
Clinical rehabilitation impact. We found significant quality evidence to support the use of KT in clinical practice in patients with disorders of the musculoskeletal system (and in sports therapy).

Abstract
Kinesiology Taping (KT) is a comprehensive therapeutic method that allows to obtain a therapeutic effect 24 hours a day and supporting the rehabilitation process of various ailments. For this therapy, special, 100% cotton, dynamic tapes are used, covered with hypoallergenic acrylic glue activated with heat, arranged in layers of a sinusoidal shape, similar to the flexibility of human muscles, and to the parameters of human skin.  Various effects of Kinesiology Taping are described in the medical literature, for example: muscle facilitation, reduction of muscle fatigue, reducing the soreness of the skeletal muscles with delayed pain, the so-called DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), supporting treatment aimed at eliminating edema and improving blood flow, reducing the pressure on mechanical receptors changes the feeling of pain as a result of the activation of the endogenous anesthetic system and limiting accumulation of chemical factors released after tissue trauma. The aim of the study was to describe two cases of using the Kinesiology Taping method in blood ecchymosis in patients after hip arthroplasty and after soft tissue injury.

Abstract
Objective. Assessment of the impact of Kinesiology Taping (KT) on the change of foot position and the way it functions in a standing position and while walking in the case of a patient with bunionette deformity.
Material and methods. The article is a report on the use of Kinesiology Taping in comprehensive conservative treatment in the case of bunionette deformity along with the assessment of the effectiveness of therapy through computer examination of the feet. The foot examination included three measurements made on a 3D scanner and on a baropodometric platform, assessing foot load while standing and walking. The first measurement was carried out before KT application, the second one immediately after the application, and the third measurement was made after the period of using KT for a month.
Results. The application of Kinesiology Taping influenced the anthropometric measurements of the foot, as well as the way of redistributing load on individual parts of the feet while standing and walking.
Conclusions. The use of Kinesiology Taping seems to have an impact on the way the foot is positioned, as well as the way the foot biomechanics are shaped in the event of bunionette deformity. In literature we have not found reports on a comprehensive method of conservative treatment of this defect using this method, which may be important in the treatment of patients who do not want or cannot undergo surgery.

Abstract
Background. The manifestations of CNS disorders, whether it is spasticity, athetosis, ataxia, or any other, are not visible shortly after birth. They usually develop during the first 4 months of life. They can only be elicited in challenge tests, including kinesiological diagnostic work- up according to V. Vojta.Aim – to define the effect of Kinesiology Taping functional application in children with central coordination disorders. Material and Methods. The study involved 28 patients from the Inpatient Rehabilitation Centre of the Multi-speciality Independent Public Health Care Facility in Zgorzelec (10 boys and 18 girls aged 6-10 months). The mean age of the group was 8 months.Results. Changes in the subjects’ postural reactivity were produced in the course of Vojta kinesiological tests. The difference between the number of pre- and post-Kinesiology Taping abnormal reactions [%] was statistically significant for 3 out of the 7 reactions tested. The mean number of abnormal reactions was 3.12 out of 7 reactions tested. The post-KT results improved inasmuch as the number of abnormal reactions decreased on average by 1 to 2.14 abnormal reactions out of the 7 reactions tested.Conclusions. Children tolerate the therapy of Kinesiology Taping very well. KT produces changes in the spatial arrangement of body parts and improves spatial reactivity, as was observed in the Vojta tests. The Traction Response test showed body axis correction in asymmetric children. The suspension test according to Collis revealed that the application of KT on the hand exerted an effect on muscle tone.

Michał Dylewski, Marek Sójka, Tomasz Senderek, Zbigniew Śliwiński, Wojciech Hagner – The effect of oblique abdominal muscle applications of Kinesiology Taping on the symmetry of pelvic movements. Fizjoterapia Polska 2008; 8(3); 290-298

Abstract
Background. Asymmetrical pelvis position is believed to be a cause of such conditions as low back pain syndromes or scoliosis. The positioning and mobility of the pelvis depend mainly on the tension of the muscles in this area. This paper attempts to evaluate the effect of Kinesiology Taping (KT) application on the symmetry of work of the iliac bones. Material and methods. The subjects were people aged between 18 and 65 years without pain syndromes, with asymmetric pelvis position. The subjects were divided into an investigational group (indications to apply KT to OAM) and a control group (no such indications). KT applications for the investigational group were chosen according to KT testing results, while in the control group KT was applied randomly. Assessments of pelvic bone movement were performed twice, before and just after KT application, using an ultrasound-based 3D motion analysis system (ZEBRIS CMS HS). Movements of the lumbar spine and iliac bones were assessed in flexion and extension with the patient in the standing position. Analysis of the results was concerned with the following parameters: symmetry of iliac bone movement and mobility of the lumbar spine before and after KT application.Results. Following KT application, the investigational group demonstrated a significant (p <0.05) improvement of iliac bone movement symmetry with regard to all parameters. The results were significantly better in the investigational group compared to the control group (p <0.05).Conclusions. Oblique abdominal muscle applications of Kinesiology Taping, when used in accordance with the principles of Kinesiology Taping and based on KT tests, substantially improve the symmetry of pelvic movement.

Fizjoterapia Polska 2009; 9(2); 133-142

Abstract
Background. The authors present an assessment of gait pattern in stroke patients subjected to comprehensive physiotherapy inclu-ding Kinesiology Taping applications. Material and methods. The KT group included 20 patients (13 men and 7 women) who were subjected to Kinesiology Taping. KT applications were not used in the control group, which consisted of 5 women and 15 men. Ali patients underwent physical, neurological and functional examinations, which constituted the basis for designing a rehabilitation program. Results. The analysis of the results indicates that functional KT application to the anterior tibial muscie, ligamentous KT application to the Achilles tendon and muscular KT application to the soleus muscie significantly contributed to improving ankle joint function. Patients treated with KT applications demonstrated improved gait patterns, visible as balanced step length and an extended support phase main-taining the body weight. When learning and analyzing the gait pattern, the midstance phase (fuli loading) is a significant element prece-ding the propulsion phase. This assessment of gait patterns following KT application in stroke patient is an innovative study. Conclusions. Muscular and ligamentous Kinesiology Taping applications reduce the spastic tension of the lower limb muscles para-lyzed as a result of cerebral stroke, The beneficial effect of Kinesiology Taping described by the founders ofthis method reduces the congestive edema of the limbs paralyzed as a result of a cerebral stroke and improve the gait pattern. The rehabilitation program applied in this study increased the gait speed of the stroke patients.

Aneta Bac, Łukasz Stagraczyński, Elżbieta Ciszek, Maciej Górkiewicz, Andrzej Szczygieł – Efficacy of Kinesiology Taping in the rehabilitation of children with low–angle scoliosis. Fizjoterapia Polska 2009; 9(3); 202-210

Abstract
Background. There are a number of methods of conservative management of idiopathic scoliosis, including Kinesiology Taping, which utilises elastic tapes to reduce pain or correct joint alignment. The goal of this study was to determine the effect of Kinesio Taping on selected parameters in children with low-angle scoliosis. Material and methods. The subjects were two groups of 22 children each, all diagnosed with low angle scoliosis on the basis of a physical examination and radiographic evidence. The patients from the control group were subjected to a special therapeutic programme. Sessions were held three times a week for 45 minutes for a total of three weeks. During the other 2 days the children exercised at home twice a day. In the experimental group Kinesiology Taping was additionally applied. Spinal mobility, the rounding of the back, the intensity of pain, the degree of muscular tension and the level of activity and regularity of doing the exercises were evaluated in both groups. Results. In the experimental group, Kinesiology Taping had the most marked effect on back rounding, muscular tension and increasing the children’s average level of activity. Pain intensity was reduced initially but later returned to baseline levels (short-lasting effect). According to the parents and the therapist, the children fitted with Kinesio-Tex tapes (experimental group) were better motivated to do the exercises regularly. Conclusions. The results of this preliminary study seem to support the hypothesis that Kinesiology Taping can be a good adjunct to traditional therapy in children with low-angle scoliosis.

Tobiasz Żłobiński, Anna Stolecka-Warzecha, Magdalena Hartman-Petrycka, Barbara Błońska-Fajfrowska – Direct impact of Kinesiology Taping on baropodometric and anthropometric parameters in patients with hallux valgus. Fizjoterapia Polska 2021; 21(2); 22-29

Abstract
Objective. Assessment of the impact of Kinesiology Taping (KT) on the change in the position of hallux valgus and on the manner the foot functions in a standing position and while walking. Material and methods. Seventy feet with hallux valgus deformity were assessed. The foot examination consisted of double measurements made on a 3D scanner and on a baropodometric platform, assessing the manner the foot bears load while standing and while walking. The first measurement was carried out before and the second one immediately after the application of Kinesiology Taping. The collected results were subjected to statistical analysis. Results. The use of KT significantly impacted numerous foot parameters measured in static conditions, and after the application of KT. It significantly decreased: hallux valgus angle (p < 0.001) and foot width (p < 0.01). In the dynamic test, a significant increase was observed in: the foot area (p < 0.001), the load on the head of the first metatarsal bone (p <0.001) and the load on the lateral part of the heel (p < 0.001). On the other hand, the maximum and average foot load (p < 0.001), and load on the heads of the second and third, as well as the fourth and fifth metatarsal bones (p < 0.001) were reduced. Conclusions. Kinesiology Taping mechanically impacted the position of hallux valgus and the position of the foot. This allows for the implementation of KT as an effective method of conservative management
