A manual wheelchair highly determines possibility of adaptation of a person with permanent dysfunction of locomotion for daily living. Selecting type of the wheelchair; geometrical sizes, adjustments regulations and choosing additional equipments determine regular choosing and selection of the wheelchair to individual user. The paper characterizes wheelchairs for active use, which construction presupposes optimal user efficiency. Authors accented a problem complication which results of its interdisciplinary — overlaying areas of knowledge: medical, engineering and wheelchair users’ experience. There was proposed three phases in process of selection and configuration a manual wheelchair for active use. Every of the phases were decompositioned on precisely defined tasks. A goal of this treatment was normalization of the choosing procedure, which considerably decrease a probability of making mistakes at fitting a technical device to the man. First phase consist to give answer to the questions from closed list of questions which are regarded to size of geometrical values of a wheelchair and number and variants of extra equipment added to the wheelchair. The influence of every possible setup on usable parameters was described. The chain of guidelines for optimal choice of their values depending on individual features of every single user was proposed. Phase two, is to adjustment the wheelchair which was chosen. The position of adjustments is a result of anthropometric dimensions of the user, skills in technique of driving a wheelchair, type of disability and future way of use of the wheelchair which for example depend of life style, kinds of activities. After user gets acquainting with the wheelchair and get well known with technique of driving the wheelchair (normally it takes about from seven up to ten days), third phase of choosing and making adjustment of a wheelchair begins. In this phase user modify adjustments and verifies extra adds given to the wheelchair. In conclusion, significance of getting correct relations in anthropotechnique system which user with appliance creates on social adaptability of person with movement dysfunction were marked.
