Abstract

Background. The aim of our study was to assess the impact of local cryotherapy on the motor capacity of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Material and methods. 74 women with RA and synovitis of the knee were divided into two groups: the first was treated with local cryotherapy, and the second with an impulse electromagnetic field. Muscle strength, the 50-meter walking test, and joint mobility were estimated. Results. In both groups statistical improvement was achieved in the measured parameters. Conclusions. Local cryotherapy is an effective method of treatment for patients with RA.
