Abstract
Systematic evaluation of the evidence for the use of craniosacral therapy (CST) in practice. The following English-only electronic databases were searched: PubMed, Scopus, PEDro, Cochrane Library. The review of journal databases was conducted between March and June 2023. The databases were searched using MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) terms, keywords and logical operators. The results from the statistical analyses performed were taken into account. Only twenty-five studies met the inclusion criteria. Positive clinical results were reported for reduction of pain, reduction of crying in children, reduction of stress hormones, and improvement of patients’ general well-being. The methodological quality of the PEDro scale ranged from 1 to 11 points. The review indicates a significant effect on patient outcomes/symptoms. There is a need for multi-center studies with common CST methodology in groups with large numbers.

Sumarjo, Sigit Nugroho, Riky Dwihandaka, Yudik Prasetyo, Susanto – The effectiveness of massage to increase the work productivity of persons with disabilities. Fizjoterapia Polska 2023; 23(3); 76-83

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG143371

Abstract
Introduction. The development of human resources begins even before birth, by focusing on the well-being of expectant mothers, and continues throughout various life stages: infancy, toddlerhood, preschool and school years, adolescence, adulthood, and old age.
Aim. The aim of this research is to examine and assess the effectiveness of a specific type of health massage in enhancing work productivity among individuals with physical disabilities. This productivity encompasses motivation, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and independence.
Method. This study employed a quasi-experimental research method utilizing a one-group time series design (pretest-posttest). The initial observation (pretest) was conducted followed by the posttest observation. The treatment group underwent a massage therapy targeting work productivity factors in people with physical disabilities, encompassing five influential elements: (1) motivation, (2) knowledge, (3) skills, (4) attitudes, and (5) independence. The research sample was drawn from the existing population using a non-random purposive sampling technique. Data collection involved assessments and measurements, with a questionnaire serving as the testing tool for measuring work productivity. Data analysis entailed analysis of variance.
Results. The research findings reveal a significant disparity between the initial and final variables, with a significance value (two-tailed) of less than 0.05, as determined by paired t-tests. However, the ANOVA test yielded a significance value of 0.267. This implies a significant impact of the health massage treatment on work productivity variables—motivation, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and independence—for individuals with physical disabilities.
Conclusion. The most substantial and effective increase in work productivity was observed in the motivation variable, with a percentage increase of 16.75%.

Quantitative and qualitative aspects of physical activity in adults

Tadeusz Kasperczyk

Tadeusz Kasperczyk – Quantitative and qualitative aspects of physical activity in adults. Fizjoterapia Polska 2001; 1(1); 74-75

Abstract
This article deals with the theory of recreation (health) training. Motor activity is a modeling factor that leads to the most advantageous morphological and functional status of the organism. A link is assumed to exist between general health and the level of physical activity. Five different recommendations for a healthy daily dose of movement were subjected to quantitative and qualitative analysis: 1) daily exertion for ten minutes with an intensity equal to 80% of the maximum pulse; 2) 3 times a week for 30 minutes at an intensity sufficient to maintain a pulse rate of 130 (Cooper’s recommendations); 10-15,000 steps daily; a general recommendation that the energy cost of exertion should amount to 1200-2000 Kcal; and a one-hour walk every day. The exertion involved was characterized in terms of the exercise value in Kcal, oxygen consumption during exercise, and the magnitude of exertion as expressed by the so-called metabolic equivalent. It was ascertained by the recommendation of a one-hour daily walk meets the qualitative and quantitative requirements in respect to movement.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG0178mY

Abstract
Aim of work. The aim of this work was to assess body postures of primary school pupils and to assess the influence of static splayfoot on bad posture within lower limbs and spine.
Material and Methods. Research sample included 306 grade four pupils attending primary schools in Kluczbork municipal district. The research test were conducted at the turn of 2017 and 2018. The results gathered in the test were subjected to statistical analysis to determine correlations between particular body posture deformities. Correlation analysis was used to determine correlations between the assessed variables.
Results. The analysis of posture fault occurrence in the research population showed variables of statistical significance for spine curvatures, flat foot and cross knees. Additionally, knee joints flexion contracture was reported in one child.
Conclusions.
1. Bad body posture within lower limbs and spine are common among grade four pupils.
2. There is a strong correlation between splayfoot and deformities within knees and spine.

Abstract

Introduction. A physiotherapist should know methods used in health assessment, basic definitions and psychosocial mechanism driving health and its prevention. The aim of this study was to assess opinions of physiotherapist about health with aligned basic determinants.
Methods. This cross-sectional study involved 117 subjects, 91 (77.7%) females and 28 (22.3%) males, aged 38 ± 10 years. Polish version of a standardized Ewles and Simnett questionnaire was applied. The poll consisted of 23 questions about 4 components of health: physical (7 questions), mental (6 questions), social (5 questions) and health as a lack of disease (5 questions). Subject chose all of possible 23 answers their agreed with. Percentage of given answers was calculated. On this basis, a dominant domain was established.
Results. Subjects agreed with 64.5% of all opinions of a questionnaire. Most frequently they chose those related to social (80%), then physical (71.4%) and finally to mental (66.7%) components of health. Health as a lack of disease was declared less frequently (60%). After categorization of individual answers, we found that physiotherapists defined health as the bio-psycho-social condition (38.9% of persons). Age, education level, marital status, place of work and number of years in profession were not associated with given opinions.
Conclusions. More than half of investigated physiotherapists define health inappropriately. Gender influences subjects’ opinions about health. Questionnaire formula of the study is its limitation, so the results need to be verified in further researches.
