Abstract

Background. The goal of our research was to evaluate the application of Tolpa Physioactive Gel in the treatment of osteoarthritis in peripheral joints. Material and methods. Two cycles of physicotherapy were performed on patients with osteoarthritis of the knee or hip joints. The first cycle was performed with an active substance, Tolpa Physioactive Gel, while the second was performed with a placebo. We assessed the following parameters: range of movement in the affected joint, the WOMAC Scale, the Visual Assessment Scale (VAS) for pain, the Likert scale, and an attempt to walk on a flat surface. Results. Subjectively there was greater improvement after application of Tolpa Physioactive Gel, as assessed on the WOMAC, VAS, and Likert scales. The examiners agreed that improvement was achieved in all patients in respect to range of movement in the affected joints and muscle strength after rehabilitation procedures, both with the physioactive gel and the placebo. Conclusions. Tolpa physioactive gel can be used effectively during iontophoresis in the treatment of patients with osteoarthritis.

Magdalena Stępień, Paweł Piątkowski, Robert Rokicki – The use of vibroacoustic therapy in patients after surgical treatment of Dupuytren’s contracture. Fizjoterapia Polska 2012; 12(4); 355-362

Abstract
Rehabilitation after surgical treatment of Dupuytren’s contractures is a necessary element of therapeutic procedures. The authors describe how vibroacoustic therapy alone and combined with laser treatment influence the total active motion and pain in patients after surgical treatment of Dupuytren’s contractures. The sample included twenty patients who had undergone surgical treatment of Dupuytren’s contractures. The subjects were divides into two groups of 10 persons. The first group was subjected to postoperative laser treatment combined with vibroacoustic therapy and the second group underwent only vibroacoustic therapy. Before and after rehabilitation, the range of movement in finger joints was measured and pain was assessed using Laitinen questionnaireand VAS scales. The authors found that vibroacoustic therapy reduced pain and improved the total active motion of the upper limb after surgical intervention. The additional application of laser treatment was found to significantly enhance the effect of vibroacoustic therapy, improving the obtained range of movements in the operated joints, on average by 1.4 cm. Vibroacoustic therapy alone and combined with laser treatment is effective in postoperative rehabilitation of patients with Dupuytren’s contractures.

Abstract
Introduction. Studying changes of motion ranges in time by means of electrogoniometers provides valuable and clinically meaningful data. The aim of the present thesis was an analysis of the kinematic parameters of the elbow joint in the sagittal plane while performing motor tasks imitating simple activities of everyday life.
Material and methods. The research group included 50 randomly selected people, aged 21-25 years old. The study, carried out with the use of Noraxon 1400 L system as well as compatible biaxial electrogoniometers, required the participants to perform a specified sequence of motor tasks: 1. Placing the hand on a table. 2. Placing the hand on a box. 3. Lifting a cup to the mouth. 4. Wiping the face with a tissue. 5. Combing hair. 6. Placing the forearm sideways on a table. The data was compiled by means of The Smart Analyzer program while the statistical analysis was carried out via the statistical program Statistica 6.0 PL.
Results and conclusions. The research showed a statistically significant correlation between gender and the mean values of the motion range in elbow joint during performed movements. There was no statistically significant relation noted between gender and other studied parameters.
