Abstract
Purpose. Chronic neck pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder that negatively affects quality of life and functional capacity. This study aimed to investigate the additive effectiveness of Kinesio Taping (KT) combined with a conventional exercise program on pain intensity, neck awareness, and functional status in individuals with chronic neck pain.
Methods. This prospective, randomized, participant- and assessor-blinded clinical trial included 36 individuals with chronic neck pain who were randomly assigned to either the Conventional Exercise + Sham KT group (n = 18) or the Conventional Exercise + Real KT group (n = 18). Due to the nature of the intervention, the therapist applying the taping was not blinded. Pain intensity, neck awareness, and functional status were assessed at baseline and after a three-week intervention period by a blinded assessor.
Results. Both groups showed statistically significant improvements in pain intensity, neck awareness, and functional status after the intervention (p < 0.05). However, intergroup comparisons revealed no statistically significant differences between the Real KT and Sham KT groups in post-treatment values or change scores.
Conclusion. The addition of Kinesio Taping to a conventional cervical exercise program did not provide additional benefits compared with exercises combined with sham taping. The observed clinical improvements appear to be primarily related to the exercise program and the placebo effect associated with taping. These findings question the routine use of Kinesio Taping as a supplementary treatment in chronic neck pain.

I Dewa Gede Alit Kamayoga, Yudik Prasetyo, Widiyanto, A A I Ayesa Febrinia Adyasputri – Protocol study on the use of kinesiotaping for postural imbalance in rounded shoulder posture –  Fizjoterapia Polska 2025; 25(5); 133-136

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZGA431H2XK

Abstract
Background. Rounded shoulder posture (RSP) is a common postural disorder, affecting up to 73% of healthy adults aged 20–50 years. It is closely associated with prolonged poor sitting habits, particularly in sedentary occupations such as tailoring, which involve sustained forward-leaning postures. While strengthening exercises have demonstrated effectiveness in improving scapular alignment and overall posture, kinesiotaping has also been applied to enhance postural awareness and neuromuscular control. However, limited evidence exists regarding the combined use of these two interventions. This study aims to develop and evaluate a standardized kinesiotaping protocol integrated with postural correction strategies to address muscular imbalance and improve scapular positioning in individuals with RSP.
Methods. This study is designed as a randomized controlled trial conducted among garment workers. Participants will include female individuals aged 30–50 years who are employed as tailors and present with rounded shoulder posture. Participants will be randomly allocated to either an intervention group receiving strengthening exercises combined with kinesiotaping or a control group receiving a standard exercise-based intervention. The primary outcome measure will be scapular alignment.
Discussion. If the findings demonstrate that a standardized kinesiotaping protocol combined with postural correction strategies is not inferior to exercise therapy alone and offers greater practicality for widespread implementation, this approach may significantly enhance access to conservative management of postural imbalances. Such results could support meaningful changes in musculoskeletal rehabilitation practices, particularly in occupational health settings.
Conclusion. This protocol outlines a randomized controlled trial comparing kinesiotaping combined with strengthening exercises versus a standard intervention for the management of rounded shoulder posture in female garment workers. The study seeks to address an important evidence gap by determining whether the addition of kinesiotaping to a standard exercise program provides additional benefits in improving scapular alignment and reducing postural imbalance. The protocol has been designed to ensure methodological rigor through clearly defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, standardized intervention procedures, validated outcome measures, and appropriate statistical analysis.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZGA4313ATS

Abstract
Objective. The aim of this study was to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of various therapeutic methods used in the treatment of lymphedema. By thoroughly understanding the mechanisms of these methods and assessing their impact on patient outcomes, the study sought to provide comprehensive knowledge on lymphedema therapy.
Materials and methods. A 33-year-old female patient with a normal body mass index (BMI) and an active lifestyle presented with symptoms of edema in the right lower limb, persisting since 2014. Her clinical history noted issues with the lymphatic system dating back to childhood. The patient reported recurrent tonsillitis, lymphadenitis, and the presence of a lymphatic fistula. Physiotherapeutic interventions were undertaken to halt the progression of edema and prevent its transition to the final, most advanced stage.
Results. The edema in this case was idiopathic, meaning its etiology was not clearly defined, which complicated the determination of appropriate therapeutic actions. Nevertheless, the therapy administered resulted in temporary improvement and stimulated lymphatic flow. The duration and sustainability of these effects could not be assessed, as only a single therapeutic session was conducted.
Conclusions. The edema presented in this case was idiopathic, meaning its etiology was not clearly defined, which complicated the specification of therapeutic actions. Nonetheless, the therapy administered contributed to a temporary improvement and activation of lymph flow. The duration and sustainability of the observed effects could not be determined, as only a single therapeutic session was performed.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG01A8U9V6

Abstract
The goal of this research was to look at the efficacy of whole-body vibration (WBV) versus Kinesio tape in enhancing strength and balance in the elderly with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Participants were divided into two groups at random: one for WBV and the other for Kinesio tape.
Methods. 60 participants with DPN, divided into two groups of thirty subjects each, were randomly assigned. WBV, balance, and resistance training were given to group A, while Kinesio tape, balance, and strength training were given to group B. The mean ± SD age of groups A and B were 55.33 ± 3.29 and 54.67 ± 3.62 years, respectively. Data on the strength of the quadriceps femoris and tibialis anterior, the unilateral stance test [UST], the Berg balance scale (BBS), and the balance score were collected from both groups both prior to and following the therapy regimen.
Results. There existed a significant enhancement in quadriceps femoris and tibialis anterior strength, UST, and BBS and a significantly lower balance score of group A compared with that of group B six weeks later, post-treatment [p < 0.05].
Conclusion. WBV is better than Kinesio tape in terms of enhancing strength and balance in older people with DPN. The WBV group showed a significant decrease in balance score, indicating improved balance control, as well as significant improvements in UST performance, quadriceps femoris and tibialis anterior strength, and BBS scores. These findings imply that WBV might be an effective therapy strategy for raising this population’s functional outcomes and quality of life.

Mira Abdelaziz Alsaeedi, Manjiri Suhas Kulkarni, Gopala Krishna Alaparthi, Kalyana Chakravarthy Bairapareddy – Immediate effects of kinesiotaping of the neck on lung function and respiratory muscle strength in stable COPD patients. Fizjoterapia Polska 2022; 22(1); 122-127

Abstract
Background. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is complicated by the presence of frequent and recurrent acute exacerbations. The patients are asymptomatic and stable in the early stages. They develop weakness of primary respiratory muscles and use accessory muscles which lead to postural changes. The forward head posture in the neck is very common in COPD patients due to increased usage of accessory muscles and aging changes. The objective of this study is to determine the immediate effect of Kinesio-taping on lung function and respiratory muscle strength in stable COPD patients and age matched healthy individuals.
Methods. 20 stable COPD patients and 20 age matched asymptomatic participants were assessed for the pulmonary function test by Spiro lab machine and respiratory muscle strength using Micro RPM machine before applying the KT. The outcomes were repeated 30 minutes after applying the KT for correcting the forward head posture. The with-in group and between group comparison of the variables before and after the application of KT was done using student t-test.
Results. A significant correlation was found in the baseline parameters of age (p = 0.011); PEF (p = 0.004) and physical activity levels
(p = 0.039). The application of Kinesio tape proved to be beneficial by improving the lung and respiratory parameters of FVC (p = 0.002) and MEP (p = 0.22) among the COPD group.
Conclusions. Our study concluded that, application of kinesio-tape can be an adjunct to conventional breathing exercises for COPD patients. There is improved lung function and reduced rate of perceived exertion after application of kinesio-tape.

Meta-analysis. Fizjoterapia Polska 2021; 21(5); 90-103

Abstract
Background. Kinesilogy Tape (KT) is widely used in patients with muscular disorders and pain. Objectives. To present the current body of knowledge on KT as a treatment method in patients with muscular disorders and pain. Design. Systematic review. Population. Patients with musculoskeletal disorders and pain. in whom KT was used.
Methods The papers were identified on the basis of term searches in digital research databases (PubMed, Medline, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CCTR), EMBASE Excerpta Medica, and Google Scholar). On the basis of the review of the available 152 research articles, 27 papers on muscular disorders and pain disorders were selected. Two of the authors of this review, working independently, selected the papers to be included in the analyzed sample, isolated the data, performed an assessment of the risk of bias, and assessed the quality of the evidence for the main effects using the IVS internal validity score (PEDro) approach. A simplified version of the Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (OCEBM) system was used to evaluate the evidence. Results. There are too few prospective, controlled randomized trials on KT that include a sufficiently large cohort. Only few of the reviewed papers that discuss the principles of KT meet the criteria of scientifically rigorous research. Conclusions. There is a need for further clinical trials on the effectiveness of the use of KT method.
Clinical rehabilitation impact. We found significant quality evidence to support the use of KT in clinical practice in patients with disorders of the musculoskeletal system (and in sports therapy).

Jan Szczegielniak, Marcin Krajczy, Katarzyna Bogacz, Jacek Łuniewski, Zbigniew Śliwiński – Kinesiotaping after thoracosurgeries. Fizjoterapia Polska 2007; 7(3); 344-350

Abstract
In 2005 there were about 15 000 operations carried out in Thoracosurgery Units in Poland. The majority of these involved lobectomy due to structural changes resulting from cancer. It is worth mentioning that the majority of patients were operated on during their first or second stages of the disease, which shows improvement in methods used for diagnostic purposes qualifying for surgical operations. However, the patients treated in the third stage of their disease might reach even 40%. Application of physiotherapy in these patients is a complex problem due to the disease, their overall condition and post-operative complications. The treatment aims at improving the efficiency, strengthening the respiration mechanism, increasing thoracic flexibility and pain relief – which finally leads to improvement of the patient’s well-being. In case of possible lymphatic swelling, drainage and antiedema treatment are also very important. In case of the patients, who underwent surgery, not connected with cancer, physical treatment and massage are valuable complementation to kinesitherapy, which is the basis of physiotherapeutic treatment. They are mainly used in order to stabilize the muscle tone, decrease swelling and pain perception. However, because of the main disease, they could not be applied in most of patients. Under limited possibility of using physiotherapeutic treatment, kinesiotaping (KT) is a safe method stimulating post—operative scar healing, improving muscle activity and helping to decrease swelling and pain.

Marcin Krajczy, Jan Szczegielniak, Zbigniew Śliwiński, Krzysztof Kamiński – The effectiveness of Kinesio Taping applications in physiotherapy of post-cholecystectomy patients. Preliminary report. Fizjoterapia Polska 2008; 8(3); 279-289

Abstract
Background. Abdominal surgery is always associated with a variety of dysfunctions, including post-operative paralysis of the alimentary tract, water-electrolyte imbalance and other, related to the underlying disease, anaesthesia and any co-existing diseases. Post-operative pain, respiratory complications as well as impaired exercise tolerance remain a serious problem for postabdominal surgery patients. Material and methods. In order to confirm the clinical effects of Kinesio Taping, a study was performed on a group of 17 patients (8 men, 9 women) following recent open cholecystectomy in the General Surgery Unit of Nysa Municipal Hospital, between March 2007 and February 2008. The patients were randomized to a treatment group (5 women, 3 men), which received Kinesio Taping, and a control group (3 women, 6 men), which received standard treatment. The following parameters were evaluated during the study: subjective pain, abdominal circumferences, ventilatory function, exercise tolerance, duration of intestinal atony to the return of peristalsis and first post-operative defecation. Results and Conclusions. 1. Kinesio Taping applied to patients after cholecystectomy reduced pain, accelerated reduction of abdomen circumference and was associated with much lower consumption of analgesics compared to the control group. 2. Kinesio Taping considerably shortened post-operative intestinal atony, accelerating the return of peristalsis and first defecation after the operation. 3. Increased exercise tolerance and ventilatory function observed in the study indicates that Kinesio Taping is an effective physiotherapy technique in patients following a conventional cholecystectomy.
