Abstract
Background. Based on previous research and analysis of work with patients with spinal complaints and functional joint disorders, the authors have constructed a model for a psychoeducational approach called BIS was constructed (Behavioral-Informational-Systemic). The model is based on a synthesis of the communication approach (NLP, Ericksonian therapy), the systemic approach (Transactional Analysis), and behavioral-cognitive therapy (RTZ, REBT). The key concept is the Informative Theory of Illness, developed as the result of many years of clinical work in psychoeducation and psychotherapy with patients with locomotor disorders. Material and methods. The study presents the theoretical grounds and the practical concept of this psychoeducational model. The effectiveness of the BIS program was evaluated on the basis material consisting of 96 patients undergoing rehabilitation for chronic neck pain syndrome. The program BIS was applied in the experimental group as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program, which also included manual therapy and kinesitherapy. The control group of 85 patients did not participate in the psychoeducation program. Results. This article presents exclusively the results of psychological evaluation, since the results of biomechanical evaluation the parameters of physical condition, and their correlation with the emotional parameters, have been published elsewhere. After rehabilitation the experimental group showed significant improvement in the feeling of psychological well-begin, a lower level of anxiety, and much better sense of physical well-being than the control group. Conclusion. The application of the BIS psychoeducational program within the framework of comprehensive rehabilitation contributes to significant improvement in both the physical and psychological state of patients with neck pain syndrome.

Abstract
The professional activity of a clinical psychologist in a rehabilitation departament requires a general knowledge of psychology as well as familiarity with departament-specific issues. There exist a variety of models for the professional activity of a psychologist in rehabilitation. The practice in the Rehabilitation Departament in Zgorzelec is closest to the developmental model’, according to which disability represents a predisposition to experience various problems in life and rehabilitation is the process of interaction between a disabled person and a specialist in a rehabilitation and physiotherapy. This model regards the patient as a partner in the rehabilitation process. Psychologists in a rehabilitation departament need to undertake different activities in the therapy of children and in the treatment of adults. Work wit children (and their carers) includes diagnosis, therapy, stimulation of development, psychoeducation and support for the parents. The psychologist also collaborates with educational institutions: schools and kindergartens that the patients attend as well as the Psychological and Pedagogical Counseling Centre, whose activities aim to support the children’s development. In the case of adult patients with CNS damage, the psychologist begins work with a neuropsychological diagnosis and follws with exercises to restore the affected functions. The basic activity in work with patients suffering from musculoskeletal pain is psychoeducation, which covers the concept of disease, connection between stress and the functioning of the body, identification of needs and skills required to satisfy them, work with emotions and relaxation training.
