Abstract
The function and performance of the feet depends on their morphology, and particularly on the longitudinal and transverse arch, and the position of the hallux and 5th toe. A number of publications have been devoted to foot morphology, mostly concerned with the relation between the longitudinal arch and morphological features. However, there is a dearth of studies of correlations between the transverse foot arch, and position of the hallux and the 5th toe and body build features. The aim was to determine relationships between longitudinal and transverse arches, hallux and 5th toe positioning and body features in females.Sixty-seven female workers aged 30-40 years from the Railway Hospital in Wilkowice-Bystra, Rehabilitation Non-Public Health Care Institution, and Social Rehabilitation-Education-Rehabilitation Centre in Radzionków were evaluated. The mean age of the participants was 36.5 years. Body weight, height, BMI, and WHR were measured. Plantography was used to determine the Clarke angle, Wejsflog index, and α and β angle. The longitudinal arch correlated with BMI and WHR, p<0.05; p<0.01; p<0.001. The transverse arch, hallux, and 5th toe did not correlate with body build. Investigations of relationships between foot morphology and body build need to be continued. By selecting the most significant features, therapies to counteract foot deformities in adults can be enhanced. The longitudinal arch of the feet correlates with the BMI and WHR indices. Therefore, a pyknic body build promotes flat foot. The transverse arch, hallux and 5th toe do not correlated with body build; thus somatic features do not influence the quality of the front part of the feet.

A. Grzyb, A. Koralewska, M. Gruszka, Z. Sobczak, M. Drewnowska– Assessment of the severity of menopause symptoms and the occurrence of pain in the lumbar spine among women living in the Silesia Voivodeship. Fizjoterapia Polska 2020; 20(4); 22-33

Abstract
Introduction. During the menopause, many changes are observed in a woman’s life. These processes have different backgrounds, but mainly they are caused by hormonal changes that have a huge impact on the functioning of the whole organism. These changes may cause, among others: insomnia, mood disorders, weight gain, and indirectly may affect the appearance of back pain.
Aim of the study. The main aim of the study was to recognize the incidence and severity of menopause symptoms, as well as to assess the degree of disability caused by pain in the thoracolumbar spine in the Silesian female population.
Material and method. The material consisted of 150 women between the ages of 40 and 60 from the Śląskie Voivodeship. The study used: the author’s questionnaire, Menopausal Symptom Assessment Scale (MRS) and the Oswestry Questionnaire. The collected material was subjected to statistical analysis.
Results. There was a wide variation in the incidence of menopause symptoms among respondents. Correlation analysis showed that there are statistically significant differences between all menopausal symptoms and lower back pain. Over half of the respondents (56.7%) struggled with excessive body weight. 79% of women have a moderate degree of disability.
Conclusions. The most common symptoms of menopause are psychological symptoms. The respondents have pain in the lumbar spine. The vast majority of women have a moderate degree of disability resulting from pain in the lower spine, the higher the body mass index result, the greater the sensation of somatic and vegetative symptoms and urogenital symptoms. The obtained data encourage a deeper and broader analysis of the phenomenon.

P. Handzlik, K. Karkoszka, J. Czesak – Body mass index, postural stability and the risk for falls in women over 60. Fizjoterapia Polska 2020; 20(3); 76-83

Abstract
Objective of the study. The aim of the study was to assess postural stability and the risk for falls in women over 60, as well as to evaluate the correlation between body mass index, postural stability and the risk for falls.
Material and methods. The research was conducted on a group of 74 women aged 60 to 85 who participated in a rehabilitation stay at a sanatorium. The subjects were divided into classes based on the value of the BMI. Specialistic balance assessment tests were used to evaluate balance. Postural stability and the risk for falls were determined using the Functional Reach Test (FRT) and the Romberg’s test. A stabilometric platform was applied to assess balance using the analysis of COP parameters, while the FRT test was used to evaluate the ability to maintain balance while leaning out and to assess the risk for falls.
Results. The analysis of the results of Functional Reach Test showed no significant effect of body mass index on balance. The analysis of the results of the Romberg’s test revealed statistically significant influence of the body mass index on some parameters.
Conclusions. Body mass index did not have a significant impact on the results of the FRT test. The analysis of the outcomes showed that overweight and obese people have a greater problem with maintaining balance in the presence of a disturbing factor. For those over the age of 60, this may be an additional factor increasing the risk for falls.
