Abstract
Introduction. The lack of research on fencing in Indonesia and the absence of analysis on muscle activation in the lower leg muscles, especially the quadriceps muscles, during fencing movements, such as lunges, is a significant gap in the existing literature. This knowledge gap is especially pronounced for athletes with knee pain and quadriceps angle differences. Knee pain causes athletes to experience a decrease in performance, one of which is caused by a decrease in balance. Purpose: This study aims to determine the difference in balance in athletes with knee pain and without knee pain and to determine the activation of the rectus femoris muscle, vastus medialis muscle, and vastus lateralis muscle in the lunge movement in athletes participating in fencing with sable and floret numbers. in the Fencing Sports Activity Unit at Tunas Pembangunan University (UTP) Surakarta. Methods. A descriptive and analytical observational research design was employed for this cross-sectional study, using purposive sampling to recruit seven fencing athletes of UTP. Stork balance test was used to check the balance score and surface electromyography records were used to collect data, and the data analysis was conducted using the nonparametric Mann-Whitney U test. Results. The results of this study prove that the body balance scores of athletes who have complaints of knee pain are significantly worse (p < 0.05) compared to fencers who do not have complaints of knee pain. Knee pain also significantly reduced the activation of the rectus femoris, vastus medialis, and vastus lateralis muscles (p < 0.05). Conclusion. Based on the results and discussion above, knee pain significantly decreases body balance and quadriceps muscle activity.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG143703

Abstract
Aim. Breech presentation complicates 3-4% of all term deliveries. This trial aimed to study the effect of combining spontaneous cephalic version (SCV) techniques with acoustic stimulation on the position of breech fetuses and their subsequent impact on maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Materials and Methods. A randomized controlled trial was conducted involving 60 pregnant women at 32-34 weeks of gestation, all expecting a singleton fetus in complete breech presentation. They were assigned to two equal groups:
Group (A) consisted of intervention participants who performed SCV techniques in conjunction with acoustic stimulation from 34 weeks of gestation, along with routine antenatal care.
Group (B) comprised control participants who continued with their routine prenatal care up to delivery.
Results. The chi-square test indicated a statistically significant increase in the number of vaginal deliveries among participants in Group (A) due to the fetuses turning to a vertex position. Meanwhile, neonates from Group (B) demonstrated a statistically significant higher Apgar score value at the 1st minute of life compared to those in Group (A).
Conclusion. Spontaneous cephalic version techniques combined with acoustic stimulation are effective in repositioning a breech baby into a vertex position, thereby reducing the incidence of cesarean sections and associated morbidities for both mother and neonate.

Fizjoterapia Polska 2023; 23(3); 228-234

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG143B52

Abstract
Requiring college students to engage in basic resistance training, locomotor, and non-locomotor exercises has shown mixed results in decreasing and improving BMI. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of an online activity-specific skills program on college students’ BMI. An experimental research design was employed, with students participating in activity-specific exercises for eight consecutive weeks. Demographic factors, including gender, pre- and post-test BMI, and the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire, were considered. An Independent Sample T-Test was used to determine significant differences in post-test scores based on gender, while a Paired Samples T-Test was used to analyze differences between pre- and post-test scores. The results indicated no significant difference in the pre-test scores. Moreover, after the eight-week activity-specific skills program, there was no significant difference observed between the pre- and post-test scores. The movement patterns taught in PE 1, encompassing locomotor, non-locomotor, and basic resistance training, did not impact students’ body mass indexes. These findings may prompt educators to reassess the effectiveness of current physical education methods or to explore alternative approaches that might be more successful in reducing students’ BMI. As the results are inconclusive, further research with a larger sample size is needed to validate the assertions made in this study.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG143590

Abstract
Introduction. Dysfunction or rupture of the posterior tibial tendon (PTT) is a fairly common cause of acquired adult flatfoot. Conservative and surgical treatments are used to correct PTT dysfunction.
Objective. The aim of this study was to present the characteristic features of PTT dysfunction and evaluate the application and effectiveness of selected physiotherapeutic methods in the treatment of posterior tibial muscle insufficiency.
Materials and Methods. Available literature was analyzed based on English-language databases such as PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Medline, and others, using the Google Scholar search engine. A total of 20 articles were analyzed out of 52 identified through the aforementioned method. Publications no older than 10 years were included as search criteria, using the following keywords: posterior tibial muscle insufficiency, orthoses, orthopedic insoles, flatfoot, physiotherapy.
Results. It was not possible to specify which method of treating posterior tibial muscle insufficiency is the most effective.
Conclusions. Contemporary research suggests that conservative treatment methods appear to be effective in treating posterior tibial muscle insufficiency. Although opinions on the effectiveness of orthoses are divided, the majority acknowledges that orthoses improve the functioning of patients with posterior tibial tendon dysfunction (PTTD).

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG14337C

Abstract
This study aims to investigate the effect of Rhythmic Physical Activity (RPA) on enhancing the motor abilities of junior athlete-students enrolled in gymnastics courses at the university level.
Materials and Methods. This study employed a randomized control trial method conducted over an 11-week period. A total of 29 junior athlete-students from Singaperbangsa State University Karawang (Indonesia) in their first year were involved. They were divided into the CON (n = 14) and RPA (n = 15) groups. Instruments to measure motor abilities included the standing long jump, handgrip strength, seated straddle stretch, foot tapping, and an obstacle course taken in reverse. Paired sample t-tests were employed to examine the differences in motor abilities scores at both the baseline and post-intervention stages for the CON and RPA groups.
Results. The primary findings indicated that RPA significantly impacted motor ability components. These components were the standing long jump
(p ≤ 0.05, d = −1.97), handgrip strength (p ≤ 0.05, d = −2.30), seated straddle stretch (p ≤ 0.05, d = −1.02), foot tapping (p ≤ 0.05, d = −2.00), and the reverse obstacle course
(p ≤ 0.05, d = −1.26). For the CON group, the results related to the standing long jump (p ≥ 0.05, d = −0.26), handgrip strength (p ≥ 0.05, d = −0.13), seated straddle stretch (p ≤ 0.05, d = −0.66), foot tapping (p ≥ 0.05, d = 0.12), and reverse obstacle course (p ≥ 0.05, d = −0.21).
Conclusions. The results underscore the significance of employing RPA to bolster the motor abilities of junior student-athletes in their first year at the university level.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG1433BB

Abstract
The implementation of blended teaching in physical education has increased significantly, but there was a lack of evidence about its effectiveness in improving mood state and motor performance skills in student-athletes, which became a gap in this study. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of blended teaching as an effort to improve mood state and motor performance skills of student-athletes both males and females in softball subject matter. Participants in this study were student-athletes from Mancak 1 junior high school (Indonesia). There was 41 participants had been allocated in control group (n = 21) and blended teaching (n = 20). The profile of mood state scale was used to measure the level of mood while the test of gross motor development-2 function was used to measure the motor performance skills of student-athletes. The Mann–Whitney U test was used to test the difference in values for each variable. Based on the study results, we observed that there was no difference in the scores of mood state and motor performance skills in male and female between control group and blended teaching group at the baseline (p  ≥  0.05). However, the second finding found contrasting differences between the control and blended teaching groups in male and female in terms of mood state scores and motor performance skills at the post-intervention stage (p ≤ 0.05). The third finding shows that blended teaching has a much larger effect size compared to the control group (full-online). Thus, we emphasize that blended teaching is an innovation in teaching softball in physical education classes that has proven to be effective in replacing full-online teaching.
