Abstract

Congenital hip dysplasia is a teratogenic defect and affects 2% of the population; It arises in the fetal period and can be caused by pathological factors from both the mother and the fetus. The hallmark of congenital hip dysplasia is an undeveloped, excessively shallow acetabulum that prevents stabilization of the femoral head, resulting in hip dislocation. In recent years, there has been a shift in understanding of this musculoskeletal defect, based on early clinical and ultrasound findings, to developmental hip dysplasia, which can present as hip subluxation or dislocation. This paper presents the stages of treatment of a patient with developmental hip dysplasia over a 45-year period, the course of rehabilitation, and the effects of improvement after the use of CD34+ stem cells.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG0DF923

Abstract

Background. Bell’s palsy is a spontaneous paralysis of the facial nerve (i.e. cranial nerve VII). It presents with muscle weakness leading to facial asymmetry, with a drooping corner of the mouth, loss of the ability to whistle, blink, close the eyelid, purse lips or grin. The forehead on the affected side becomes smooth and the patient is not able to frown or raise eyebrows.

Objective. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of combined electrophysical and physiotherapeutic methods on accelerating recovery from facial nerve palsy.

Material and Methods. The authors describe two cases of Bell’s palsy, treated with simulta-neous application of electrophysical agents, in the form of an extremely low-frequency elec-tromagnetic field (ELF-EMF) and high-energy LED light, and physiotherapy modalities, i.e. proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) and kinesiotaping (KT).

Results. After four weeks of electrophysical and physiotherapeutic treatments, a fully satis-factory and stable therapeutic effect was achieved.

Conclusions. The interdisciplinary therapy using ELF-EMF + LED combined with PNF and KT treatments proved to be effective in accelerating recovery from facial nerve palsy. Further studies are needed to establish appropriate protocols.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG0DF1BA

Abstract
Study purpose. Discusses the outcomes of Moderate Intensity Training (MIT) and High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNF-α) and blood profiles to be used as a treatment option for obesity.
Material and Methods. This research is a true experimental laboratory with a post-test-only control group design. Using 39 obese male Wistar rats with the distribution of 13 Wistar HIIT groups, 13 Wistar MIT, and 13 Wistar control. The exercise intervention consists of HIIT intensity (90–100% of baseline ability), MIT intensity (60-80% of baseline ability), and control without training for six weeks. A specialized rat treadmill was used for the exercises. Measuring of TNF-α levels with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Hematology test used to determine levels of eritrosit, leukosit, trombosit. Data analysis used the Anova test.
Result. TNF-α levels in MIT and HIIT were significantly higher than control levels, as indicated by P values of 0.003 (HIIT vs Control) and 0.001 (MIT vs Control). There weren’t any big differences. in the blood tests for erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets between groups. At body weight, HIIT is lower than the control P = 0.000, and MIT is also lower than the control P = 0.002.
Conclusion. Exercise with HIIT and MIT for 6 weeks can be used as an alternative to overcome obesity because it can reduce weight obesity, but not accompanied by a decrease in TNF-α and erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets.

Abstract
Any clinical procedure in dentistry, especially one that involves a breach of tissue integrity, carries the risk of complications, which can occur in any speciality. These include: postopera-tive wound pain, tissue swelling, bleeding, redness, elevated temperature, trismus, decreased sensation as a result of nerve damage. Postoperative patient care aims to minimise the risk of complications and to treat those which have developed. To this end, we can resort to physical therapy, one of the modalities of which is light therapy, using electromagnetic wave ranges of red, infrared, yellow and ultraviolet light. Yet, it remains unclear which wavelength should be used to treat any specific disease entity and which form of therapeutic light should be used in the rehabilitation of a specific complication following dental procedures? In this study, we used the Cason CA380 infrared digital pyrometer with a laser pointer and the Fluke Ti 400 thermal imaging camera. On the basis of the tests and statistical analysis, it can be concluded that the application of light significantly increases the temperature of the irradiated facial skin surface. Irrespective of the type of light used, each was associated with an increase in temper-ature. A more pronounced increase in temperature on the facial skin surface after a given ap-plication suggests that the effect of light therapy is shallow, which is relevant to the choice of a specific light wavelength to be applied in a particular disease entity or dental complication.

Mahendra Wahyu Dewangga, Djoko Pekik Irianto – The differences frequency of weekly physical exercise in antioxidant serum levels and muscle damage. Fizjoterapia Polska 2023; 23(2); 112-120

DOI: https://doi.org/10.56984/8ZG0DFB15

Abstract

Problems and Purpose. A measurable physical exercise that follows the rules can improve physiological abilities. However, physical exercise that is not according to the rules, such as lack of recovery time caused by too frequent exercise, can increase the accumulation of free radicals in the body. In addition, the limited recovery time can also increase tissue damage to the muscles. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of differences in the frequency of physical exercise in one week on serum antioxidant levels and tissue damage.
Materials and methods. This study was experimental with a post-test-only control group design, with the sample being male Wistar rats. There were 24 male Wistar rats divided into four groups. In the control group, the rats were not given physical exercise. In experimental group 1, rats were given physical exercise 2 times a week. In experimental group 2, rats were given physical exercise 4 times a week. In group 3, rats were given physical exercise every day. Physical training was carried out for four weeks. Then, biomarkers of serum antioxidant levels (SOD, CAT, GPx) and muscle tissue damage biomarkers (LDH, IL-6, and CPK) were checked.
Results. Physical exercise 4 times a week and daily without sufficient recovery time can significantly reduce serum antioxidant levels and increase muscle tissue damage (p < 0.05).
Conclusion. Based on this study, physical exercise must be accompanied by sufficient recovery time to avoid decreased serum antioxidant levels and increased muscle tissue damage.
