T. Tasiemski – Assessment of knowledge of the health status of patients with spinal cord injuries among physiotherapists from public health institutions in Wielkopolska region. FP 2012; 12(4); 305-312

Abstract

Background. Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in functional disorders of multiple systems of the human body and brings about a number of post-traumatic complications. The patients should be informed about the health status after SCI already during their stay in hospital or rehabilitation centre. The main objective of this study was to assess the level of physiothe – rapists knowledge of about the health status of SCI patients.
Material and methods. The study involved 55 physiotherapists (35 women and 20 men) employed in 12 public health institutions in Wielkopolska region. The average number of years worked as a physiotherapist was 9 in the studied sample. The research tools used for this study included the knowledge test checking the participants’ knowledge about the health of SCI patients and a personal questionnaire.
Results. The general level of knowledge about the health of SCI patients among the physiotherapists has been assessed as satisfactory, the highest in the area of nutrition/diet and thrombosis, and the lowest as regards obtaining assistance after SCI. The type of school completed did not affect the subjects’ knowledge of the health status of SCI patients. A significant negative correlation between the level of knowledge and years of physiotherapists working in the profession was revealed.
Conclusions. The graduates of physiotherapy studies or colleges, especially those with long work experience, should be aware of the necessity of lifelong learning and regularly renew their professional knowledge, in this case by tracing the latest information on the health and daily functioning of SCI patients.

Abstract

Aim. Burnout, defined as mental and emotional exhaustion, is characterized by the loss of energy, commitment to work and the lack of plans for  the future. The aim of the study was to analyze the potential determinants of professional burnout in the physiotherapists.
Material and methods. The study included 102 physiotherapists employed at the health-care centers in Podkarpacie Region. The research tool was a Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) adapted in Polish by Pasikowski. Basic measures of descriptive statistics were calculated. Kruskal-Wallis’s ANOVA analysis of variance was applied to evaluate differences in average numerical properties in more than two populations. In case of statistically significant differences were found in several groups, post-hoc test of multiple comparisons was performed. The differences in average numerical properties in two populations test were evaluated by means of Mann-Whitney U test.
Results. A significantly higher overall rate of burnout in the physiotherapists at the age of 35-40 years old was found  (p=0.0078), who were professionally active for over 10 years (p=0.0026), and did not take non-professional physical activity (p=0.0004). The determination of the value of the indicator of job satisfaction was significantly lower in physiotherapists not participating in postgraduate education (p=0.0388).
Conclusions. There is a need to take action aimed at emotional support of the workers and help to solve problems. Physio-therapists should be encouraged to improve systematically their skills and to promote the principle of caring for their physical fitness through physical activity  and activities not connected with their profession.

Porównanie sprawności fizycznej fizjoterapeutów z 20-letnim stażem pracy ze sprawnością fizyczną studentów fizjoterapii

Anna Stecz, Marek Kiljański

A. Stecz, M. Kiljański – Comparison of phisical fitness phisiotherapists 20 years of service with phisical fitness phisiotherapist’s students. FP 2016; 16(4); 6-12

Jednak średnie wyniki badanych uzyskane w każdej z prób podają, iż fizjoterapeuci uzyskali wyższe wyniki w próbie gibkości i siły mm. brzucha natomiast studenci w szybkości i skoczności. Istotna statystycznie okazała się zależność pomiędzy częstością podejmowanej aktywności fizycznej a poziomem wydolności.
Wnioski: Studenci wyższe wyniki uzyskali w próbie szybkości i skoczności, natomiast fizjoterapeuci w próbie siły mm. brzucha i gibkości. Nie ma istotnej statystycznie zależności pomiędzy wiekiem badanych a poziomem sprawności fizycznej. Częstość podejmowania aktywności fizycznej wpływa na poziom wydolności w badanych grupach.
