The Polish Rehabilitation Model was developed and implemented in Poland and abroad by the architects of Polish rehabilitation: Prof. Wiktor Dega and Prof. Marian Weiss. This model, based on the four basic principles governing the rehabilitation process – early commencement, universal access, comprehensiveness, and continuity – has gained the acceptance of the international community, and in 1970 was deemed worthy of emulation by the European Board of the World Health Organization. Prof. Weiss, in creating and then developing the Metropolitan Rehabilitation Center, remained faithful to the ideals inherent in this model, which he promoted in numerous presentations on the international forum. The cardinal principle of comprehensiveness was a particular point of reference for Prof. Weiss in his vision of creating a modern rehabilitation center.
