Abstract
This article deals with the theory of recreation (health) training. Motor activity is a modeling factor that leads to the most advantageous morphological and functional status of the organism. A link is assumed to exist between general health and the level of physical activity. Five different recommendations for a healthy daily dose of movement were subjected to quantitative and qualitative analysis: 1) daily exertion for ten minutes with an intensity equal to 80% of the maximum pulse; 2) 3 times a week for 30 minutes at an intensity sufficient to maintain a pulse rate of 130 (Cooper’s recommendations); 10-15,000 steps daily; a general recommendation that the energy cost of exertion should amount to 1200-2000 Kcal; and a one-hour walk every day. The exertion involved was characterized in terms of the exercise value in Kcal, oxygen consumption during exercise, and the magnitude of exertion as expressed by the so-called metabolic equivalent. It was ascertained by the recommendation of a one-hour daily walk meets the qualitative and quantitative requirements in respect to movement.

Abstract

Background. The purpose of this work was to evaluate the suitability of brisk walking tests in qualifying patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for exercise. Material and methods. The article presents a description of the tests as a method for evaluating the exertion capacity necessary for proper loading of patients with physical exertion during exercises. Results. The dependence we found between the basic values of the tested indices specifying the ventilation capacity of the lungs and the energy expenditure measured in the 6- and 12-minute brisk walking tests indicates that these tests are suitable for qualifying patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease for exercise. Conclusions. Determining the energy expenditure in METS in the 6- and 12-minute brisk walking test enables proper dosing of physical exertion in the home-based rehabilitation of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease after in-patient treatment, and developing indications for their motor activity.

Abstract
The article describes the issues concerning patients that practise sports and want to familiarize themselves with the mechanisms that influence cardiac muscle while doing physical activity (amateur or competitive) as well as physiotherapists that are familiar with the physiology of the physical effort and the adaptation of circulatory system to the activity including structural changes in heart, and who want to broaden their knowledge on that issue. Often, the latter share their professional knowledge with their patients, therefore it is crucial to remember such information. The topic depicted in the article is absolutely actual because it is acknowledged that a healthy lifestyle is the lifestyle of the 21st Century and a regular physical effort or lack of thereof is the most crucial factor that influences the state of a healthy individual and their length of life.
