Abstract
Background. Cancer-related fatigue is a persistent symptom in acute myeloid leukemia survivors, with associated decreased functional capacity, which further deteriorates their quality of life. The current study aimed to compare between the impact of aerobic training and resistive training on functional capacity in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) survivors. Fifty nine patients with AML from both sexes aged between 35 and 45 years, were selected from hematology department in (BLINDED FOR PEER REVIEW), where the study was conducted. Patients were randomly assigned into two groups; Group (A) underwent aerobic training in the form of cycling within 50-60% of maximum heart rate. Group (B) underwent resistive training conducted in the form of a series of exercises using free weights, and dumbbells. Sessions were carried out three times per week, for a total of eight weeks period. Six minute walk test (6MWT), 10 repetitions maximum test (10 RM). Ventilatory functions test, fatigue severity assessment (FAS) and quality of life (QoL) scales were measured in both groups before and after the study period. Results. Significant improvement in 6MWT, maximum oxygen consumption (VO2 max) and vital capacity in group (A), significant improvement in fatigue and QoL in both groups and significant improvement in 10 RM test in group (B). Conclusion. Both aerobic and resistive training significantly improved functional capacity in acute myeloid leukemia survivors with a more significant improvement due to aerobic training.

Naglaa E. Tolba, Nesreen G. El Nahas, Safy Kaddah, Samah M. Ismail – Effects of Respiratory Resistance Training with a Concurrent Flow Device on Respiratory Muscle Strength and Functional Capacity in End Stage Renal Disease. Fizjoterapia Polska 2021; 21(3); 44-50

Abstract
Background. Patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (HD) suffer from respiratory symptoms, uremic myopathy and protein catabolism leading to reduction of functional capacity and respiratory muscle strength. Objective. To determine the efficacy of intradialytic respiratory training using concurrent flow resistance (CFR) on respiratory muscle strength and functional capacity. Subjects and methods. Forty patients with end stage renal disease on hemodialysis for at least 4 months, with their age ranged from 30 – 40 of both sexes (20 men and 20 women) participated in this study at hemodialysis center of Fayoum University Hospital, Fayoum, Egypt. A Single- interventional study group designed. The study period was 12 weeks. Maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximum expiratory pressure (MEP), selected pulmonary function test, Functional capacity and fatigue severity scale (FSS) were evaluated before and after the study. Results. There was significant improvement in MIP, MEP, FEV1%, FVC%, 6MWT and FSS by 61.37%, 63.01%, 58.26%, 55.12%, 36.48% and 22.35% respectively, while no significant difference was recorded regarding to FEV1/FVC% ratio. Conclusion. It can be concluded that respiratory training using concurrent flow resistance (CFR) device for 12 weeks was effective therapeutic technique to improve respiratory muscle strength and functional capacity in patients with end stage renal disease on hemodialysis.

Dorota Fudalej, Zbigniew Nowak, Michał Plewa – Influence of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedure and inpatient (phase 1) and outpatient (phase 2) cardiac rehabilitation on functional capacity in patients post myocardial infarction (MI) within first 12 months after the procedure. Fizjoterapia Polska 2002; 2(4); 285-289

Abstract
Background. The objective of this study was to assess the influence of complex treatment on functional capacity in patients with chronic coronary artery disease (CAD). Treatment consisted of CABG procedure and subsequent inpatient (phase 1) and outpatient (phase 2) cardiac rehabilitation programs.Material and methods. The study group consisted of 46 male patients aged from 36-68 (x = 51 ± 9.4), whose phase 1 rehabilitation program was initiated in 1st day after CABG procedure and lasted for consecutive 7 days. Phase 2 of rehabilitation consisted of group exercise sessions performed at outpatient exercise centre and 16 cycles of interval training performed on cycle ergometer. Results and conclusions. The results of stress test obtained before CABG procedure and 6 and 12 months later were compared. It was found that patients’ functional capacity improved considerably. The adequate tolerance of exercises performed according to proposed program was noted as well.
