Małgorzata Fortuna, Jacek Szczurowski, Anna Konieczna-Gorysz – Assessment of aerobic capacity in elderly women and men subjected to rehabilitation training. Fizjoterapia Polska 2011; 11(2); 169-174

Abstract
Good aerobic capacity is the basic factor responsible for self-sufficiency in elderly people. In this popu-lation maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max) is indicative of their aerobic capacity. The aim of the study was to compare and assess aerobic fitness in elderly males and females subjected to rehabilitation training.he 30 women aged 75 ± 5 and 30 men 79 ± 8 aged were subjected to a long-lasting reha-bilitation training whose purpose was to improve their aerobic capacity. This training lasted for minimum two years. The subjects were tested using the Astrand – Ryhming test on a cycle ergometer. In men the obtained average VO2max value [22.4 (ml/min./kg. body mass) ±1.7] was higher as compared to the corresponding value obtained in the group of females [21.4 (ml/min./kg. body mass) ± 1.9 ]. This difference was significant between groups (at the level p<0.05). The VO2max values obtained from both groups of subjects were good if we consider the subjects’ age. This interpretation was based on Monark Test Report by Monark 818E Analysis Software Version 2.0.The average VO2max value obtained from both groups indicated a good level of aerobic capacity in the studied subjects. in the currently conducted research a statistically significant between gender differences in maximum oxygen uptake were noted. The values obtained from the male subjects were significantly higher than these obtained from the females.

Abstract

Introduction. Overweight and obesity among children and adolescents is a serious problem of developmental age. It affects more and more children. Increasingly, children are consuming large amounts of processed and high-calorie food. Children move less and less because they spend their free time in front of the phone, TV or computer screen. A small amount of exercise promotes the development of excess body weight in children. Low physical activity also causes children not to improve their motor skills. In addition, many researchers point out the negative impact of excess child weight on their physical fitness.
Aim of the study. The aim of the study was an attempt to determine the level of selected motor skills in overweight and obese children and to determine the relationship between excess body weight in children and their motor skills.
Material and methods. The research group consisted of 25 children, including 12 girls and 13 boys aged 12 to 18 years. The subjects were diagnosed with overweight and simple obesity. The Romberg test, Tandem tests, medicine ball throw, toe-floor test, 40 or 60m run were used to assess the motor skills of children. To assess the children’s performance, the spiroergometric test, 6MWT = 6-minute walk test and the Borg scale after exercise were used. The “TANITA” weight was used to assess the body mass composition. The same test was performed in each child and the same tests were used to determine the level of selected motor skills, performance and body weight composition.
Results. The results obtained from the analysis of the results indicate the same development of motor skills in children with excessive and normal body weight. Moreover, the children showed the same exercise tolerance.

A. Stecz, M. Kiljański – Comparison of phisical fitness phisiotherapists 20 years of service with phisical fitness phisiotherapist’s students. FP 2016;16(4);6-12

Abstract

Aim. The aim of this study was to compare the physical fitness of phisiotherapists from the 20 years of work experience with the physical fitness of physiotherapy’s students. They were also subjected to analysis of the performance of the respondents.
Material and Methods. The study was conducted in the period from April 2015 to March 2016 in a group of 48 healthy people. Patients were divided into 2 groups: 24 physiotherapy students (13 women and 11 men) and 24 physiotherapists (14 women and 10 men). For the analysis of the research material was used a questionnaire, which contained 15 questions about physical activity and habits studied and selected samples from the Zuchora’s Index of physical fitness (agility, jumping, speed, strength of abdomen muscles).
Results. The tested samples of fitness, there were no statistically significant correlation between the subjects’ age and level of implementation of individual skill tests. However, the average results of the respondents obtained in each of the tests say that the physiotherapists scored higher in an attempt flexibility and strength mm. belly while students in speed and jump try. It turned out to be statistically significant correlation between the frequency of physical activity undertaken and the level of efficiency.
Conclusions. The students obtained higher scores in an attempt to speed and jumping, while physiotherapists in an attempt to strength of abdomen muscles and flexibility. There is no statistically significant correlation between the subjects’ age and level of physical fitness. The frequency of physical activity influences the level of efficiency in the study groups.
