Abstract
Background. Despite number of effective pharmacological treatments and the success of interventional cardiology, many patients still experience resistive symptoms, or what is called Refractory Angina (RA), that markedly impairs quality of life (QoL). Aim. to investigate the effect of exercise training (ET) program in addition to TENS on endothelial function, QoL and physical work capacity (PWC) in patients with RA. Methods. forty male patients, suffering from chronic RA were randomly assigned into two equal groups. Group (A) received conventional TENS program in addition to ET program for five months, while group (B) subjected to only TENS for five months. Assessment was performed before treatment (pre), after 8 weeks (post I), after treatment (post II), and after more 4 weeks for both groups (post III). Outcome assessment included: endothelial function using flow-mediated dilation (FMD), QoL using The Seattle Angina Questionnaire (SAQ) and PWC using the 6-minute walk test (6MWT). Results. there was a significant improvement of the FMD in group (A) with no significant difference in group (B). Comparing between both groups showed that SAQ scores and 6MWT improved significantly in both groups with greater improvements in group (A) than group (B). Conclusion. The addition of ET program to TENS resulted in more improvement in endothelial function, PWC, and QoL in patients with RA.

Abstract
Background: The study aimed to assess and compare the effectiveness of Ketonal (ketoprofenum) iontophoresis and a combination therapy involving ultrasound and electrical stimulation in the treatment of rotator cuff injuries. Materials and methods: The study involved 30 patients with symptoms of rotator cuff injuries. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups. Patients in Group A received Ketonal iontophoresis. Patients in Group B received a combination therapy involving ultrasound and electrical stimulation to trigger points of the supraspinatus and other shoulder rotator muscles. Treatment efficacy was assessed by analysing changes in shoulder range of motion, supraspinatus strength, and the occurrence and intensity of pain. Results: The treatment produced significant effects in both groups. Treatment effects in Group B were somewhat better than those in Group A, with significant differences in pain resolution and improved range of active abduction. Conclusions: Ketonal iontophoresis and combination treatment are effective methods for treating the sequelae of rotator cuff injuries. The combination treatment applied directly to myofascial trigger points produced somewhat better results than Ketonal iontophoresis.

Andrzej Myśliwiec, Edward Saulicz – Changes in the subjective sensation of pain in patients with cervical spine dysfunction treated by means of Saunders traction and TENS. Fizjoterapia Polska 2010; 10(3); 211-221

Abstract
Background. Neck pain is one of the most common causes of reduced overall well-being. The aim of this thesis is to present changes in the sensation of neck pain following a traction and TENS treatment. Materials and methods. The subjects of this study were 45 patients aged 21-66 years suffering from neck pain. They were treated using the Saunders traction device and TENS. The treatment was performed in three experimental groups. Saunders traction was used in the first group, TENS in the second group and the last group received a combination of both these treatments. Results. The patients’ subjective assessment of pain intensity in the Laitinen scale showed a reduction of pain in all groups characterized by a decrease of pain intensity from moderate to mild. The most pronounced therapeutic effect was achieved in the group which received a combination of traction and TENS. Conclusions. The Saunders traction device combined with TENS produced the most marked and lasting decrease in pain arising from the cervical spine. The greatest improvement was observed after the first session. Improved well-being was also noticed at the end of the treatment.

M. Kaczyński, S. Jarząb, M. Guła, K. Aleksandrowicz – Evaluation of the importance of previous physiotherapeutic preparation in aspect of using TENS during childbirth among primiparous. FP 2014; 14(2); 60-66

Abstract

Introduction. For the purpose of the study has set the definition of what is the efficacy of transcutaneous electrical stimulation of nerves during labor using a portable apparatus without consultation over the use of this therapy by prior training and participation of a physiotherapist.
Materials and methods. The study included 30 primiparous. In the 18 women who start treatment preceded by a description of how the action electrostimulator by a physiotherapist, and 12 patients who have purchased their own devices for electrostimulation.
Results. In 94.43% of the primiparous of the training covered by a physiotherapist, and 50% of patients without consultation, TENS to a lesser or greater extent eliminates the pain of childbirth. In the group of patients after the training has been only one case of pharmacological analgesic administration. However, in the group without consulting the percentage was 25%.
Conclusions. TENS pain therapy is more effective if it is preceded by appropriate training or physiotherapy consultation regarding the use of the TENS machine. Patient after physiotherapy training showed a greater knowledge of the mode of action and use the apparatus to TENS therapy than patients who missed this stage.
