Streszczenie
Objective. To investigate the effect of kinesiotaping in preventing elbow flexion tightness in infants with extended erb’s palsy.
Method. Thirty-two infants from both genders, aged 3-6 months, and diagnosed with extended Erb’s palsy, were aimlessly allocated into two groups equally. Group (i) received a constructed program of physical therapy triweekly for three months, while group (ii) received equal therapy in addition to Triceps kinesiotaping. Assessment of muscle power was performed using the Toronto Active Motion Scale and assessment of the elbow extension range of motion was performed using the smartphone goniometer “G-Pro” application, which was conducted prior to and after the treatment program for both groups.
Results. Group (i) showed significant difference in elbow extension range of motion when comparing the affected side with the non-affected side, after the treatment, exposing that elbow flexion tightness unfortunately had occurred, while there was non-significant difference in group (ii). Significant improvements of elbow extensors’ and flexors’ muscle strength were verified post-treatment within groups, while comparing between-groups revealed significant improvement (p < 0.05), in favor of group (ii).
Conclusion. Kinesiotaping of the Triceps muscles is an effective modality for boosting muscle power, supporting function and preventing the occurrence of elbow flexion tightness in affected infants.

Streszczenie

Objectives. Poor endurance and early fatigue are factors contributing to ambulatory decline in cerebral palsy that was associated with lack of physical activity and secondary impairments. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of aerobic power training on walking efficiency and function in children with cerebral palsy. Methods. Thirty children with spastic cerebral palsy, of both sexes, aged between 6.41 to 16.8 years, were randomly allocated to either study or control group. Study group participated in aerobic power training with heart rate biofeedback for 30 minutes, 3 days per week, for 8 weeks in addition to a traditional physical therapy program, whereas control group received only traditional physical therapy program. Energy expenditure index (EEI) and its corresponding walking speed on a treadmill and gross motor function for standing and walking were measured pre- and post-treatment. Results. Comparing the results of pre- and post-treatment revealed that the measured variables were improved by statistically significant difference within both study and control groups, with a higher effect size and percentage of improvement in the study group. Post-training results revealed statistically non-significant differences between groups regarding the measured variables (EEI, TWS, GMFM-D, and GMFM-E). Conclusions. There was no statistical additional effect for the aerobic power training program. However, it was effective in improving walking efficiency and function in children with spastic cerebral palsy with higher percentage of improvement than the traditional physical therapy training program.

Moussa A. Sharaf, Mona S. Faggal, Marwa S. Saleh, Nagwa I. Rehab – Effects of low level laser therapy and median nerve mobilization after carpal tunnel release: A randomized controlled trial. Fizjoterapia Polska 2020; 20(5); 128-134

Streszczenie

Background. Although various rehabilitation methods have been used to enable patients to return to their normal activities after carpal tunnel release (CTR) such as low level laser therapy (LLLT) and median nerve mobilization, up till now, there is no evidence for the comparison of effects of these two techniques in patients with CTR. Purpose. To investigate and compare the effectiveness of LLLT and median nerve mobilization after CTR on the electrophysiological parameters of median nerve, pain, hand grip and pinch strength. Methods. Forty-five patients of both sexes with unilateral CTR participated in the study. They were randomly assigned into three equal groups. Group I received LLLT and group II received median nerve mobilization three sessions per week for five successive weeks. Group III was the control group. Electrophysiological parameters of the median nerve, visual analogue scale (VAS), hand grip and pinch strength were assessed pre, post-treatment and after three months (follow-up). Results. There was no significant difference between GI and GII in all variables at post-treatment and follow-up. However, there was significant difference in all variables at post-treatment in GI and GII as compared to GIII. At follow-up for all variables, there was no significant difference between GI and GIII (except for pain) with significant difference between GII and GIII. Conclusion. Both of neural mobilization and LLLT lead to better improvement in the electrophysiological parameters of the median nerve, pain and hand function after CTR (in favor of neural mobilization group). Also, median nerve mobilization is more effective on improving hand function than LLLT at follow-up.

Szyja tekstowa a ból szyi

Wojciech Błachnio

W. Błachnio – Text neck vs. neck pain. Fizjoterapia Polska 2020; 20(5); 114-121
